Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Detroit Lions take on the San Francisco 49ers in a Monday Night Football clash at Levi's Stadium in the penultimate week of the 2024 NFL regular season.

The 13-2 Lions bounced back from their Week 15 loss to the Buffalo Bills with a 34-17 road victory over the Chicago Bears last Saturday. QB Jared Goff continued his impressive run, throwing for 336 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Jahmyr Gibbs added 154 yards of total offense.

Meanwhile, the 49ers will be recovering from their 29-17 defeat against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, which officially eliminated them from playoff contention. San Francisco’s injury-depleted offense showed signs of life, with Deebo Samuel recording 121 yards from scrimmage, but their defense struggled to contain Miami's high-powered attack.

San Francisco has historically dominated this matchup, leading the all-time series 40-28-11.

However, the Lions will be motivated to avenge their loss in last season's NFC Championship game, where they squandered a 17-point halftime lead.

Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49ers betting picks and predictions

Detroit Lions -3.5 (-110)

Detroit's quest to be the NFC's top seed remains firmly on course, and Dan Campbell's men have been faultless on the road this season.

The Lions are the NFL's only undefeated team away from home, boasting a franchise-record seven road victories.

They have won those games by an average margin of 13.7 points and dominated possession with a 54 percent share on average.

These traits make them appealing as -3.5-point favorites against a 49ers team that has lost three straight games and will be without several key players.

San Francisco will be missing their top two left tackles, Trent Williams and Jaylon Moore, as well as their top two left guards, Aaron Banks and Ben Bartch, due to injuries.

Conversely, the Lions are getting healthier, with guard Graham Glasgow expected to return to the lineup after a knee problem kept him out against the Bears.

Detroit's offense ranks second overall and first in scoring, while their defense has improved to seventh in points allowed.

San Francisco, meanwhile, could not surpass the 18-point mark in a loss for the seventh time this season when they failed to deal with the Dolphins.

The 49ers have not won the turnover battle for seven straight games and are now minus 8 in turnover differential over their last five games combined.

Now they have nothing to play for, it is hard to envision a scenario where the Lions, who are 10-5 against the spread this season, do not win this game by at least four points.

Over 50.5 Total Points (-110)

Both teams have the potential for explosive offensive performances, making the Over an attractive option.

The Lions are tied for the NFL lead with 57 passes that have gained at least 20 yards, showcasing their big-play ability. And the 49ers are not far behind in that category with quarterback Brock Purdy having completed 56 passes of 20 yards or more.

While San Francisco's defense has been stout against the pass, their recent struggles and numerous injuries could lead to a higher-scoring affair.

Detroit's defense, ranked 27th against the pass, may also struggle to contain the 49ers' talented skill players like Samuel and tight end George Kittle.

First Score Method 6-Way - SF 49ers Field Goal (+370)

Despite their success, the Lions have not been getting off to many quick starts this season with Detroit only taking the first lead in four of their last 11 games.

The 49ers, meanwhile, have put the first points on the board in seven of their last 10 games and, more often than not, they have done it with a field goal.

San Francisco kicker Jake Moody has had his ups and downs this season, missing seven of his 15 field goal attempts on the road, but he has a perfect 15/15 record when attempting field goals at Levi’s Stadium, including three kicks made from over 50 yards.

So there could be some value in taking the 49ers to get on the board first with three points from Moody’s boot.
