Joe Burrow and Cincinnati Bengals are clinging on to their play-off hopes after last week's dramatic defeat to the Ravens and now they find themselves priced up as slight underdogs for their Week 11 clash with Los Angeles Chargers.
Despite boasting one of the hottest offenses in the NFL, Cincinnati has a 4-6 record, while their hosts are 6-3 and second only to the all-conquering Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.
While LA's hopes of topping the division remain slim due to KC's nine-game winning run, Jim Harbaugh's men will be aiming to solidify their wild-card spot as the regular season edges towards its conclusion.
The Chargers' highly-rated defense has helped them win four of their last five games, although there's no denying that this Sunday night clash with Cincinnati represents a step up in opposition at SoFi Stadium.
Seven of the Chargers' nine games this season have stayed under the total and last week's 27-17 win over the Titans marked their highest-scoring game of 2024, so overs backers will be tempted to tread carefully with a 48-point over-under.
However, the Bolts are yet to face an offense on a par with the Bengals, who put up huge numbers in their 41-24 Week 9 win over the Raiders, then did likewise when going down 35-34 in last week's shootout with the Ravens.
A failed two-point conversion in Baltimore has left Cincinnati in dire need of a victory, but QB Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase are not to blame for their poor record - Burrow has thrown nine passing touchdowns over the last fortnight, three of them to Chase last week as the wideout exploded for 264 receiving yards.
With fellow receiver Tee Higgins poised to return and running back Chase Brown continuing to impress on the ground, the Bengals should have enough offensive quality to put pressure on a Chargers defense which has been flattered by the standard of opposition over the last few weeks.
On the other side of the ball, LA has been getting steadily healthier. The offense has put up at least 26 points in their last three games and Justin Herbert continues to develop his chemistry with promising rookie receiver Ladd McConkey.
With Cincy in desperate need of a win and the Chargers perhaps not as strong defensively as their record suggests, this one could quickly turn into a Sunday night shootout.
With Chase in sparkling form and Higgins returning to give the Chargers' defense something else to think about, Bengals running back Brown could again see opportunities open up for him in the passing game.
Brown has totalled 30 receptions this season from 37 targets and he has been more involved through the air over the last two weeks, chalking up 37 yards from five receptions against the Raiders then exploding last week, catching nine of 11 targets and chalking up 52 yards.
J.K. Dobbins had full command of the Chargers backfield throughout October, but he wasn't particularly efficient on the ground against the Titans last week, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry from 15 attempts.
Dobbins has now found himself back in a committee with Gus Edwards, who returned from an ankle injury against Tennessee and churned out an impressive 55 yards on the ground from 10 carries.
Coach Harbaugh could again share the carries around and, while the Bengals kept Derrick Henry reasonably quiet last week, the Chargers running back could still eclipse a relatively modest over-under.
