After surviving a late rally from Lamar Jackson's Baltimore Ravens last week, the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to move to 2-0 when they host Cincinnati Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
The Chiefs got the job done on home turf against a strong Ravens side with a 27-20 victory and have the benefit of home comforts to enjoy in Week 2, before heading off to Atalanta to face the Falcons in Week 3.
Before thinking of the trip to Georgia, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his side will first need to tackle Joe Burrow’s Bengals, who were stunned in Week 1 with a 16-10 home defeat at the hands of the New England Patriots.
Below are our experts’ picks and predictions for the contest.
The Bengals had a good run against the Chiefs, but things were different in their two meetings last year.
Prior to 2023, Cincinnati appeared to have the sign over Kansas City, winning seven of their previous eight meetings.
However, in their two games at Arrowhead Stadium in 2023, the Chiefs won both meetings, with a 23-20 in the AFC Championship game in January and a 25-17 victory in December.
Those wins will certainly give the Chiefs confidence going into this one, as will watching the Bengals’ woeful performance against the Patriots.
New England only managed to win four games in the NFL last season and are expected to be in contention for the number one draft pick this time around.
However, the Pats managed to grind out a win to leave many in the Bengals camp concerned about the season ahead.
With home advantage and after a positive result against the Ravens, the Chiefs are good enough to not only win on Sunday but cover the spread in the process.
After suffering another injury setback with a wrist ligament issue last season, Burrow looked far from the quarterback that has taken this Bengals side to an NFL Championship game when he took the field against the Pats.
Again there are concerns regarding Burrow’s wrist and at times the playmaker did move it awkwardly between plays.
The Bengals star was adamant after the match that his wrist is getting better by the week and it’s not preventing him from making the throws he wants to in games.
However, Burrow and Cincinnati will not want any further injury setbacks so expect him to avoid making contact as much as possible on Sunday.
With that in mind, Burrow looks to be good value with under 13.5 rushing yards over the course of the game against the Chiefs this weekend.
Scoring eight touchdowns over the course of last season, Travis Kelce continues to be a threat in the Chiefs offense.
The Chiefs tight end is a favoured option for quarterback Mahomes and he will look to pick up any pockets of space left by the Bengals defense.
Previously scoring a touchdown against Cincinnati in 2022, Kelce is worth considering to add to his touchdown tally against the Bengals this weekend.
