Week 10 kicks off with a divisional matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
Both teams scored exactly 41 points in Week 9 en route to big wins, the Bengals overcoming the Las Vegas Raiders 41-24 and the Ravens thumping the Denver Broncos 41-10.
Baltimore improved to 6-3 with their win over the Broncos in Week 9. The offense was clicking on all fronts as Lamar Jackson threw three touchdowns and Derrick Henry ran for two himself.
The Ravens will be glad to have gotten back into their rhythm after a surprising loss to Jameis Winston and the Cleveland Browns in Week 8. Plus, the Broncos own one of the strongest run defenses in football to go with a solid secondary, so the score wasn’t supposed to be so lopsided.
Baltimore’s next matchup will come on Thursday Night Football against their divisional rival the Bengals, which should be an even easier matchup for Jackson and company.
It was a rough start for Cincinnati, who dealt with plenty of injuries early in the season, but Joe Burrow is doing his best to keep the team in contention.
However, The Bengals are struggling defense, allowing the eighth most points per game and their weak secondary has been the main problem.
When these teams faced off just a few weeks ago in Cincinnati, the Ravens finished with 41 points with Jackson throwing for 348 yards and four touchdowns while Henry nearly had 100 rushing yards with a TD.
The Bengals have won three of their last four games to improve their record to 4-5 entering Week 10.
With that said, none of those victories were impressive. They scored just 17 points in their win over the Giants, won by seven against Deshaun Watson and the Browns and then beat Gardner Minshew and the Raiders in Week 9.
Their only loss in that four-week span came against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the Bengals allowed 37 points and lost by 20.
Cincinnati has been able to take advantage of playing the weaker teams, but they’ve really struggled against sides with a winning record. And considering the Ravens scored 41 points the last time these two met, it’s clear that John Harbaugh has a plan to beat the Cincy defense.
The Ravens and Bengals combined for 79 points when they faced off in Week 5. The game was tied 38-38 when the fourth quarter ended and a Justin Tucker field goal in overtime sent the Ravens home with a victory.
It was an offensive clinic as the two teams combined for just two punts all game. Jackson finished the game 26/42 for 348 yards and four touchdowns while also running for 55 yards on 12 carries.
On the ground, King Henry totaled 92 yards and a touchdown on 15 rushing attempts. Whether it was through the air or on the ground, the Bengals weren’t able to stop Baltimore’s offense.
Jackson wasn’t the only one to have a good game in Week 5. Joe Burrow completed 30 of his 39 passes for 392 yards and five touchdowns. The Bengals kept the ball in Burrow’s hands for most of the game which made a lot of sense since the Ravens defense has a clear weakness.
Heading into Week 10, the Ravens have allowed just 75.7 rushing yards per game - the fewest in the NFL. Baltimore’s defensive line has been incredible and no team has been able to find success on the ground against them.
However, the Baltimore secondary is a different story. The Ravens are allowing 280.9 passing yards per game which is by far the most in football.
It’s been Baltimore’s biggest weakness all season and that shouldn’t change in Week 10 against a quarterback that has already dominated this secondary once this season.
