The New York Yankees took a 2-0 series lead in the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night, and their odds to win the World Series shortened even further.
The Yankees are now +100 to win the World Series. They entered Game 2 with +140 odds to go all the way.
Cleveland is now +1600 to go all the way. The Guardians can take solace in the fact that 15 teams have come back from 0-2 deficits in seven-game MLB postseason series, with the most recent happening last year, when the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS.
But, the fact Yankees superstar centerfielder Aaron Judge finally hit his first home run of this postseason last night will discourage the Guardians. Judge entered Game 2 with a .564 OPS in the 2024 playoffs before going yard in the seventh inning.
Cleveland used eight pitchers in Game 2 as starter Tanner Bibee lasted just 1.1 innings as he gave up five hits and three runs. In the two games combined, New York has gotten 10 innings from its starting pitchers while Cleveland has gotten 4.0 innings.
For this series, the Guardians are +600 to come back and win the AL Pennant while New York is -900 to finish the job.
