The reigning Presidents' Trophy winners take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2024/25 season opener on Wednesday night.
The Rangers led the NHL in wins (55) and points (114) last season, earning the top seed in the East, but lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers in the conference finals.
The Penguins have missed the playoffs in back-to-back years after making the postseason 16-straight seasons from 2007 to 2022. Led by veterans Sidney Crosby, who is entering his 20th NHL season, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson, Pittsburgh faces another fight to make the playoffs in a stacked East.
