Read the latest betting picks and predictions for tonight's matchup between the New York Rangers (12-7-1) and Carolina Hurricanes (15-5-1), courtesy of our friends at Daily Faceoff.
New York hadn’t had a losing streak longer than one game until recently, and now the Rangers have lost three games in a row, being outscored 14-6 by teams below them in the standings in the process. Now, they’ll put their 7-3 road record to the test in Carolina on Wednesday against the Hurricanes.
Igor Shesterkin, who has the second-best Vezina Trophy odds, is expected to start for the Rangers. However, while Shesterkin has been good overall, the team hasn’t been playing well in front of him as of late. After going unbeaten in his first four games, Shesterkin has six of his last 10 starts, allowing roughly 3.4 goals per 60 minutes during that stretch.
On Wednesday, Shesterkin will face one of the league’s top offensive teams, as the only two teams have scored more goals per 60 minutes (3.97) than Carolina has. The Hurricanes also rank second in expected goals and first in shot attempts per 60 minutes. Carolina is also a great defensive team, but with both of their starting goaltenders, Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov, on the shelf with injuries, Spencer Martin is now designated as the team’s starter.
Due to this change in goal, and the recent scoring trends (for and against) of both teams, this game projects to be higher scoring than what we would typically expect in a matchup between these two clubs.
