New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes Game 4: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Carolina Hurricanes are on the brink of elimination from the 2024 NHL Playoffs via a New York Rangers sweep, so the pressure is very much on the hosts ahead of Saturday night's Game 4.

There has not been much between the two sides so far, with the opening three games decided by a one-goal margin and the last two games both going to overtime.

But it is New York that has been able to find that little bit extra and come up with a way to win to put it on the brink of the Eastern Conference finals.

The Rangers have now gone 7-0 to start the playoffs for the first time since 1994, the last time they won the Stanley Cup, and they are now the +300 favorites to go all the way this year.

Carolina has a big task ahead, so can it make home ice count on Saturday night and keep the series alive?

New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes Game 4 betting picks and predictions

New York Rangers ML (+125)

The Hurricanes have not been far away from winning any of the opening three games and are likely to be more desperate in Game 4 on Saturday night in front of their home fans.

It is therefore understandable that the Hurricanes are -150 favorites. However, the value is with New York, who are +125 to continue doing what it has been doing: Winning.

Peter Laviolette's men have won seven straight in the playoffs, including three road games, while they have reeled off nine straight victories dating back to the regular season.

The Rangers have won five straight playoff games against the Hurricanes and seven of the last eight, which includes a Game 7 win in Carolina in 2022. In fact, New York has won on their last four visits to the PNC Arena, including a 1-0 win in the regular season and Thursday night's overtime success.

New York are 5-1 against Carolina this season and at +125 odds, it may well pay to ride the wave that they are currently enjoying - especially when considering the elite form that Igor Shesterkin is showing between the pipes.

Shesterkin has a save percentage of .935 in the playoffs so far, bumping it to .938 in the first three games of the Carolina series.

The 2022 Vezina Trophy winner's form also goes a long way to explain why the Rangers are winning the special teams battle as they are 15-for-15 on the penalty kill in this series, with Chris Kreider giving them the added bonus of a short-handed goal to tie the game at 1-1 on Thursday.

Their powerplay is converting at 34.5 percent in the playoffs compared to Carolina's 16.7 percent, and the Rangers' star players are coming up with the goods when they need to.

All in all, getting +125 on a streaking team looks the way to go.

Carolina Hurricanes -0.5 1st Period (+170)

Although the Rangers look great value to win, the Hurricanes look good to take the opening period as their playoff lives depend on this game - there are no more second chances.

Carolina are the favorites to take this series any further and there is little doubt that it will come out fast on Saturday night, so +170 looks good for a first-period lead for the hosts.

There is plenty of talent on their roster and they have already demonstrated their abilities to make a fast start by claiming the opening period in both Game 2 and Game 3 of this series - they just have not been able to sustain it or keep the Rangers at bay.

With Saturday's night as desperate a situation as it can get, expect the Hurricanes to fly out of the blocks to try and blow the Rangers away.

Alexis Lafreniere over 0.5 points (+120)

The Rangers top six have done the bulk of the heavy lifting so far in this series and there is plenty of value in backing Lafreniere to add another point to his tally on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old winger had an assist in Game 1, scored two goals in Game 2 and notched a goal and an assist in Game 3 to make it five points in the series, taking a big step up from the opening series against the Washington Capitals in which he scored four points.

Playing alongside the likes of Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin should give him plenty of opportunities to score at least a point.
