New York Jets Next Head Coach Odds: Aaron Glenn favored

After firing head coach Robert Saleh following a 2-3 start to their season, the New York Jets will hire their eighth head coach this century ahead of the 2025 season.

New York went 3-9 after letting go of Saleh, who served as the team’s head coach for two full seasons before his unceremonious firing in October 2024. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich took over as interim head coach as the Jets missed the playoffs for the 14th straight season.

Considered one of the toughest jobs in the NFL, let’s take a look at the favorites to be the next head coach of the Jets.

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn (-125) is the current favorite to become head coach of the Jets in 2025.

Despite losing several key players to injury, including Defensive Player of the Year candidate Aidan Hutchinson, Glenn’s unit ranked among the best in the NFL down the stretch in 2024. Glenn and the Lions were eliminated in the Divisional Round of the playoffs as injuries caught up to the team, and the interview and hiring processes for Glenn may accelerate as a result.

Another defensive-minded coach, current Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores is +140 to land the job. Known as one of the best defensive minds across the NFL, Flores has also earned a reputation for being a hard-nosed, unforgiving head coach from his time with the Miami Dolphins from 2019-2021.

Former Atlanta Falcons head coach and current Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith (+700) is a new name near the top of the betting. He helped Russell Wilson bounce back from his rough stretch with the Denver Broncos and helped the Steelers make the playoffs this season.

Rex Ryan (+900) is the fourth-favorite to land the head coaching job, a hire that would bring Jets fans back to their most recent glory days. Ryan spent six seasons as Jets head coach between 2009 and 2014, leading the team to back-to-back AFC Championship games in 2009-10, which are their most recent playoff appearances.

Currently an analyst with ESPN, Ryan has been outspoken that he is “the best guy” for the job. Ryan’s most recent role in the league was a two-year stint as Buffalo Bills head coach from 2015-16.

Buffalo Bills OC Joe Brady (+1100) has the fifth-shortest odds in the market. The Jets have seen the Bills offense dominate the AFC East in recent years under Brady and QB Josh Allen, and given New York's struggles under center, Brady may be a good fit.

Ron Rivera (+2000), who has spent over a decade on NFL sidelines, has the sixth-shortest odds to get the Jets job and is the last candidate at 20/1 or shorter to do so.

Other notable candidates include former Jets QB Josh McCown (+3300), recently-dismissed former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy (+3300), and Kansas City Chiefs OC Matt Nagy (+3500).
