After winning the MLS Cup in 2021, New York City FC has struggled to reach the heights of what they once were. Several players from that championship team have left, but after signing new manager Pascal Jansen, the club looks to be back on the right track.

NYCFC is currently building their own stadium, Etihad Park, which is scheduled to host it's first match in July, 2027. The soccer-specific stadium will be located next to Citi Field in Willets Point, Queens.

NYCFC typically deploy a 4-3-3 formation which can transform throughout the match into a 4-2-3-1. First-year manager Pascal Jansen prefers a his team to play with lots of possession and looks to win the ball back from opponents using a high press.

New York City FC played its first MLS game in 2015, becoming the twelfth expansion team in the league. The franchise won their only MLS championship in 2021, and are moving to a permanent soccer stadium in 2027, Etihad Park. New York City FC is owned by the City Football Group and Yankee Global Enterprises, the latter of which owns the New York Yankees.
