Georgia vs. Kentucky: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The Georgia Bulldogs will put their undefeated record to the test when they visit the Kentucky Wildcats at Kroger Field on Saturday night.

Georgia has opened with victories over Clemson and Tennessee Tech. Kentucky heads into this one at 1-1, having knocked off Southern Miss before falling to South Carolina.

Televised on ABC, the game kicks off at 7:30 pm ET. Let’s take a look at the odds and best bets to be made for Saturday’s showdown.

Georgia vs. Kentucky betting picks and predictions

Georgia -24 (-110)

As expected, Georgia has been dominant through two games. Head coach Kirby Smart’s crew humiliated Clemson 34-3 and then predictably destroyed Tennessee Tech 48-3. That’s a combined score of 82-6 through two weeks for those counting.

Led by Heisman Trophy candidate and likely first-round NFL Draft pick Carson Beck, UGA’s offense already looks like a well-oiled machine.

Beck has already thrown for 520 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Running back Trevor Etienne returned after missing the season opener and racked up 78 yards at Tennessee Tech’s expense on just five carries.

Defensively, the Bulldogs have not yet allowed more than 188 total yards of offense to any opponent.

Clemson and Tennessee Tech made six trips inside Georgia’s 40-yard line and came away with a grand total of six points on those drives. Meanwhile, Kentucky is averaging only 3.7 points per drive when it gets inside the 40.

Speaking of the Wildcats’ offense, it was pretty much a no-show during a 31-6 home loss to South Carolina last weekend.

Brock Vandagriff, who transferred from none other than Georgia since he could not beat out Beck for the starting job in 2023, finished with 30 passing yards and 10 attempts.

Through two outings, the Cats are outside the top 115 nationally in offensive PPA.

It’s hard to see them doing much damage against a vaunted UGA defense, which would be the norm. In five straight head-to-head matchups, Kentucky has failed to surpass 13 points or 300 yards.

The Wildcats have not stayed within single digits of the Dawgs since Smart’s first season at the helm (2016) and expect that trend to continue, with the visitors winning and covering.

Over 45 (-110)

Despite the lack of confidence that should be had in Kentucky’s offense, this is a low enough total such that the over looks like an intriguing play.

Chances are good that Georgia can shoulder much of the load by itself in the scoring department.

The Bulldogs absolutely love to sling the ball around with Beck. Through two games they have a bottom-six rush rate nationally...even though they won those games by a combined 76 points.

Needless to say, Smart does not have any problem running up the score and certainly won’t against a conference rival.

It’s also worth noting that the Dawgs boast top-35 marks in both pass-play PPA and pass-play success rate.

Kentucky watched Beck throw for 389 yards and four scores in last year’s head-to-head matchup. More of the same may be in store for him on Saturday.

The visitors’ chances to put up a massive number could be helped by good field position, too. That happens, of course, when the other team turns the ball over.

Well, Kentucky QBs have combined for four turnover-worthy plays already this season and three of those resulted in interceptions. A bad offensive line facing an esteemed UGA pass rush is also a recipe for turnovers.

So, in a way, the Wildcats’ offense really could contribute to the over! And, of course, there is always a possibility of UK finding the endzone once or twice once the game presumably gets entirely out of hand.

All things considered, this contest should exceeded a relatively small total.
