Wofford vs. Furman: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The Southern Conference (SoCon) championship game tips off on Monday at 7 PM ET at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center in Asheville, NC.

With an Tournament berth on the line, Wofford and Furman will battle for the conference title in what has already been one of the wildest SoCon tournaments in recent memory.

None of the top four seeds remain, and this matchup features the No. 5 seed Furman against No. 6 seed Wofford – two teams that have found their stride at the right time.

Furman (25-8) has the most overall wins of any SoCon team, but an 11-7 conference record slotted them as the fifth seed. They took out No. 1 seed Chattanooga in an overtime thriller in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Wofford (18-15, 10-8 SoCon) has cruised to this stage, winning both of their tournament games by double digits, thanks to red-hot shooting and solid rebounding.

With Furman installed as a slight 1.5-point favorite, this game is expected to be a tight battle.

Wofford vs. Furman betting picks and predictions

Wofford +1.5 (-110)

This game presents a wide range of possible outcomes. Furman has been the better team all season, but Wofford enters with a significant rest and fatigue advantage, when you read between the lines.

The Terriers have relied on depth, with eight players logging at least 17 minutes in each of their last two games, while Furman’s stars have shouldered a heavy load.

After playing an overtime game against Chattanooga, Furman’s key players, Pjay Smith and Nick Anderson, logged close to 40 minutes each. Wofford, on the other hand, has kept its rotation fresh, with only one player reaching 30 minutes in either game. That difference in rest could play a pivotal role late in the game.

Another key factor is Wofford’s shooting. They’ve been on fire from beyond the arc in the conference tournament, hitting 41% of their threes (23-for-56). For a team that already ranks 24th nationally in three-point attempts, this surge in efficiency is a dangerous sign for Furman.

Wofford has also unexpectedly excelled at drawing fouls, getting to the free throw line 51 times over the last two games – an area where they typically struggle (275th in the nation in free throw attempts during the regular season). If they continue to attack the rim and maintain their shooting touch, Furman will be in trouble.

On the defensive side, Furman has been solid at limiting opposing three-pointers, but Wofford’s ability to rebound could neutralize that strength.

Furman ranks 175th in offensive rebounding and 248th in defensive rebounding, while Wofford is top 40 in both categories. That rebounding edge should give the Terriers extra possessions and limit Furman’s second-chance opportunities.

Given these factors, Wofford’s balanced attack, fresh legs and rebounding advantage make them a strong pick to cover the spread and potentially win outright.

Over 137.5 (-110)

Regardless of the spread outcome, one bet that stands out is the over. The two regular-season meetings between these teams sailed past this number, with a 143-point total in the first game (Wofford won 81-62) and 153 points in the second (Furman won 78-75).

Advanced metrics also support this play, with KenPom projecting 143 points, Bart Torvik estimating 141, and Evan Miya setting the line at 140.5.

Both teams shoot a high volume of threes and excel at converting them. Furman ranks fifth nationally in three-point attempts and shoots 36% from deep, while Wofford also ranks in the top 25 in attempts.

With Wofford’s defense ranking 342nd in three-pointers allowed, Furman should have plenty of opportunities to find their rhythm from beyond the arc. Additionally, Furman has been strong at getting to the foul line, which will be a key factor in pushing the total higher, especially if Wofford’s recent free throw trend continues.

This is the third game in three days for both teams, which typically leads to tired legs affecting defensive intensity more than offensive execution. Tired defenses often lead to more open three-point looks, and if either team goes cold from outside, free throws could still push the total over.

The combination of three-point volume, defensive vulnerabilities and potential fatigue makes the over 137.5 the strongest play on the board.
