Vermont vs. Duke: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

Duke (24-8) and Vermont (28-6) are each making their third straight appearance in the men’s basketball tournament.

The No. 4 seed Blue Devils match up against the No. 13 seed Catamounts on Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York at 7:10 PM ET.

Under second-year coach Jon Scheyer, Duke finished second in the ACC, but lost its last two games to Tobacco Road Rivals North Carolina and then N.C. State in the conference tournament. Vermont has won 10 straight, including its third straight America East conference tournament championship.

Vermont vs. Duke betting picks and predictions

Duke -12 (-110)

The odds are heavily against the Vermont Catamounts as No. 13 seeds have only gone 32-120 historically in the tournament. However, 13th-seeded Furman did knock off No. 4 seed Virginia just last year, and Vermont has previously won a tournament game as a No. 13 seed, back in 2005 with a win over Syracuse.

The Duke Blue Devils should be motivated as they're coming off two straight losses plus an upset defeat to Tennessee in the second round of last year's tournament.

Duke is 18-13 against the spread this season, and have gone 9-6-1 ATS when favored by 12 points or more. Vermont is just 14-18 against the spread this year. Even though this is a popular upset pick, the Blue Devils will come to play from the outset.

Kyle Filipowksi leads Duke with 17.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. The Blue Devils feature five players who score in double figures, with Jeremy Roach (14 PPG), Jared McCain (13.4 PPG, 4.9 APG), Mark Mitchell (12.3 PPG, 6.2 RPG) and Tyrese Proctor (10.5 PPG, 3.9 APG) all contributing heavily.

TJ Long leads Vermont with 12.2 points a game, and Shamir Bogues (11 PPG, 5.3 RPG) and Aaron Deloney (10.9 PPG) form a solid guard trio with Long.

Look for Vermont to keep it close into the second half, but for the Blue Devils to cover this 12-point spread and advance to the second round, where they will face the winner of No. 5 Wisconsin and No. 12 James Madison.

Over 132.0 Total Points (-110)

The two teams combine to average a total of 152 points this season, 20 points over the listed point total.

Duke games have totaled more than 132 points in 28 out of 32 contests this season. Averaging 80 points a game, they are going to go full throttle from opening tip, and Vermont is going to have to shoot well to hang with them.

These two teams should easily go over the 132 points total.
