UConn vs. Seton Hall Women: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The No. 5 UConn Huskies will be looking to replicate a completely overwhelming performance against the Seton Hall Pirates when the two Big East rivals lock horns again on Wednesday night, this time with the Pirates hosting.

With home-court advantage on January 19, the Huskies humiliated the Pirates 96-36. Fast forward one month and UConn heads into the rematch with a 24-3 record (14-0 Big East) and riding a three-game winning streak. Seton Hall is 18-7 (10-4 Big East) after thumping Providence this past Sunday.

UConn vs. Seton Hall Women betting picks and predictions

UConn -26.5 (-110) 

As the 60-point margin indicates, the first head-to-head matchup of this season between these two teams was an unmitigated disaster for Seton Hall. The Pirates trailed 56-16 at halftime and 64-16 early in the third quarter, so the drubbing was every bit as thorough as the final score indicates.

Seton Hall shot 14/62 from the floor, 4/26 from three-point range, turned the ball over 19 times and lost the rebounding battle 46 to 30. Third-leading scorer Savannah Catalon (13.1 points per game) is back after missing the previous loss to UConn, but fellow guard Shailyn Pinkney (24.1 minutes, 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds per game) remains sidelined.

UConn has taken three losses this season, but all of them have come at the hands of ranked opponents out of conference. The Huskies are undefeated in the Big East and they are also coming off their best performance of the year, an 87-58 road rout of then-No. 4 South Carolina.

What was particularly impressive? Head coach Geno Auriemma’s crew dominated one of the best teams in the nation – and the defending National Champions – even though Paige Bueckers shot only 3/12 from the field.

Azzi Fudd (13.4 ppg) has been red hot for UConn of late. The senior guard has scored 17, 34 and 28 points over the past three outings. During this stretch she is 30/55 from the floor and 19/30 from deep. Against Seton Hall, she delivered 18 points on a 7/11 effort (including 4/8 from the land of plenty).

The Pirates have to worry about forward Sarah Strong (16.1 ppg, 8.0 rpg) down low, so Fudd and the rest of the backcourt should continue to get open looks from the perimeter. With the Huskies rolling right now and the Pirates probably dealing with mental fatigue from last month’s beatdown in this matchup, let’s back the visitors to win and cover.

Under 126.5 Total Points (-110)  

The Under also looks like the right play for this matchup. After all, Seton Hall knows that its only chance to keep the game close is to make it a slow, defensive-minded slog.

When you score 36 points against an opponent in the first matchup, it’s hard to like your chances of outscoring that same foe in a shootout one month later. 

Combine a slow pace of play with UConn’s vaunted defense and points will likely come at a premium on Wednesday. The Huskies are fourth nationally in scoring defense (52.3 ppg) and No. 11 in field-goal percentage defense (35.5 percent).

Strong has struggled on the offensive end in recent weeks but remains a dominant force from a defensive perspective. She is contributing 2.3 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. Bueckers is averaging 2.1 steals per contest, has made four in two of the past three games, and last week against St. John’s she befuddled the Red Storm to the tune of four steals and five blocks.

UConn is forcing 18.9 turnovers per game as a team. But let’s not overlook the Seton Hall defense, either. It is allowing a mere 58.3 ppg during this 2024/25 campaign and just held Providence to 38 points this past Sunday.

All things considered, the Under looks like the best bet to make.
