St. John’s vs. Connecticut: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The No. 2 Connecticut Huskies (29-3) are the defending national champions, and in 2024 added their first outright Big East regular season championship in 25 years.

They are now looking to add a conference tournament title, as well as cement a No. 1 seed in next week’s tournament.

The Huskies go up against Rick Pitino and his St. John’s Red Storm (20-12) in a Big East Tournament semifinal at Madison Square Garden at 5:30 PM ET.

St. John’s, looking for its first tournament berth in five years and sitting squarely on the bubble this season, has won six straight, including a resounding 91-72 triumph over Seton Hall in a Big East quarterfinal contest on Thursday night.

The winner of this game will face the winner of No. 10 Marquette and Providence tomorrow in the championship game.

Read below to see our experts’ picks and predictions for this Big East semifinal clash.

St. John’s vs. UConn Betting picks and predictions

UConn -9.5

This is a large spread, but the Huskies are hungry for more hardware under coach Dan Hurley.

UCONN is talented, deep, and focused, and has won five straight as well, by an average of 20 points a game.

UCONN is 5-0 straight up and against the spread in neutral site contests this season. They are 21-11 against the spread overall this season, and 29-2 straight up as the favorite.

However, St. John’s is playing its best basketball of the season. They know how to play UCONN tight and they are not afraid of Hurley’s juggernaut squad. And, they are 7-2-1 against the spread against the Huskies in their last 10 matchups.

Cam Spencer averaged a team-high 19 points in the two wins over St. John’s for the Huskies, while Tristen Newton averaged 16.5 points in the two games. Daniss Jenkins, the Red Storm’s leading scorer, led the team with 16 points a game in the two defeats.

Over 148.5

Even though this total is higher than what these two teams combined for in both their regular season meetings, the conference tournament should allow for more open play.

That is especially true if UConn gets out to a big early lead and St. John’s has to speed up possessions to play catch up.

UConn and St. John’s have played to the over seven of the past 10 games.
