South Carolina vs. Tennessee Women: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The second-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks (19-1, 7-0 SEC) look to continue their mastery over the Southeastern Conference when they face the No. 17 Tennessee Volunteers (15-4, 3-4 SEC) in Knoxville on Monday at 7 PM ET on ESPN 2.

Coach Dawn Staley’s defending National Champions own a 54-game regular season winning streak in the SEC. That includes four straight wins over ranked opponents, highlighted by a 66-56 victory against LSU over the weekend which knocked the Tigers from the ranks of the unbeaten.

South Carolina’s only loss this season is to current No. 1 UCLA, the lone undefeated team remaining in the nation.

Tennessee has faltered since the start of SEC play. The Volunteers are 3-4 in the conference, including two straight losses. The team dropped a late 80-76 decision on the road at Texas over the weekend.

See below for our experts’ predictions for this top-25 SEC clash.

South Carolina vs. Tennessee betting picks and predictions

South Carolina -10.5 (-110)

LSU gave a strong effort against the Gamecocks this weekend, but South Carolina still recorded its seventh straight double-digit victory over SEC opponents to start conference play. Staley's team has won by an average of 26 points in those contests, with LSU’s 66-56 defeat the closest of those games.

It doesn’t matter if the teams are ranked either. South Carolina has won four straight over ranked opponents. That includes the Tigers, as well as Oklahoma (101-61), Alabama (76-58), and Texas (67-50). The win over LSU was the Gamecocks’ 17th straight against the Tigers.

Outstanding depth and unselfish play characterize Stately’s squad. No player averages more than Joyce Edwards’ 12.2 points per game. MiLaysia Fulwiley is going for 11.1 points, followed by Te-Hina Paopao with 10.9 points, and Tessa Johnson and Chloe Kitts with 9.4 points each. Kitts leads the team with 7.5 rebounds.

Edwards led South Carolina in the win over LSU with 14 points, while Sania Feagin, another standout quietly in the mix, had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Talyasia Cooper leads the Volunteers, who have five players averaging in double figures, with 17.8 points per game. Ruby Whitehorn, who led the team with 21 points in the loss to the Longhorns over the weekend, is averaging 13.5 per, followed by Jewel Spear with 12.8, Samara Spence with 11.3, and Zee Spearman with 11.1 and a team-high 5.9 rebounds.

Tennessee leads the nation in scoring at 93.4 points per game, but the Volunteers have dipped a bit in SEC play, averaging just over 84 points per game in conference contests.

This game will see the return of Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell, who just gave birth. Look for the Volunteers, who are 9-2 at home, to be competitive in front of the home crowd, but look for South Carolina to continue its hot form and cover the 11.5-point spread as favorites.

Over 155.5 Total Points (-110)

Both teams are ranked in the top 20 in scoring this season. The Gamecocks are 13th in the nation at 81.9 points per game. Unlike Tennessee, South Carolina has performed slightly better in league play, averaging north of 82 points a contest in the SEC.

The biggest difference is at the other end of the court. South Carolina is 17th in scoring defense, allowing 55.1 points per game. The Gamecocks’ +26.7-point differential is good for sixth in the country.

The Volunteers are allowing 69.5 points per game. Even worse, Tennessee has allowed 83 points per game in three SEC contests at home. That includes 87-86 and 89-87 losses to Oklahoma and LSU, respectively, two teams South Carolina has bested recently.

South Carolina is going to score in bunches and Tennessee is going to try and keep pace from the outside, where the Volunteers are making more than 12 treys a game. Look for the two teams to go Over the 155.5-point total.
