Ohio State vs. UCLA Women: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The top-ranked, undefeated UCLA Bruins (21-0, 9-0 Big Ten) host the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes (20-1, 9-1 Big Ten) on Wednesday at 9:30 PM ET.

This is the first time the two programs have faced each other as conference opponents.

UCLA has been ranked No. 1 for most of the season, the first time in program history the team has been ranked that high, and they're the only remaining undefeated team. UCLA is 9-0 at Pauley Pavilion and has won 13 straight at home going back to last season.

The team is currently a half-game ahead of both USC and the Buckeyes in the Big Ten, who are both 9-1 in conference play.

Ohio State, at 20-1, is off to its best start since the 2011/2012 season. The Buckeyes recently lost at Penn State to end its unbeaten 17-0 start. This is a defining weekend for the program, as 12th-year coach Kevin McGuff’s team faces the Bruins and No. 7 USC in this extended Los Angeles trip.

The Buckeyes have made three straight NCAA Tournaments and seven overall under McGuff, have rebounded quickly from the Penn State loss. The Buckeyes knocked off then-No. 8 Maryland, followed by victories over Nebraska and Washington.

Who will win this Top-10 Big Ten matchup? See below for our experts’ predictions.

Ohio State vs. UCLA betting picks and predictions

UCLA -12.5 (-105)

Betts (20.2 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 2.8 bpg) has been a force all season. The All-American and Wooden Award candidate will look to rebound scoring-wise from her six-point outing against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

UCLA guard Kiki Rice (13.2 ppg) leads the team with 4.4 assists per contest and the Bruins move the ball around well as a whole, leading the Big Ten with 21.4 assists per game.

Cotie McMahon leads the Buckeyes with 16.5 points per game. The team has five players averaging in double figures, including Jaloni Cambridge (14.6 ppg), Chance Gray (14.5 ppg), Taylor Thierry (10.8, 5.7 rpg), and Ajae Petty (10 ppg, team-high 7.1 rpg).

Ohio State is 17-1 this season against teams with records above .500, are 3-0 against top-25 squads, and are 6-1 away from home. UCLA is 5-0 against top-25 teams.

The Bruins have been dominant at home in Big Ten play, winning all four contests by an average of more than 24 points. That includes a 16-point victory over then-No. 24 Michigan on New Year’s Day. Our experts are expecting a similar performance at home against the Buckeyes.

Look for UCLA to remain unbeaten atop the conference while covering the 12.5-point spread as favorites.

Over 140.5 Total Points (-110)

Both teams are ranked in the top 20 in scoring this season. UCLA is 11th with 82.2 points a game, with Ohio State not far behind in 13th with 81.6.

The difference is at the other end of the court, where the Bruins allow just 54.9 points per contest, good for 17th in the nation. Ohio State is allowing 58.9 points per game this season, but that number jumps to 64 points allowed per game in the team’s last 10 contests.

UCLA has scored 80 points or more 12 times this season, while the Buckeyes have accomplished that task 13 times. We are expecting both teams to keep a high tempo throughout the contest and easily surpass the 140.5-point total.
