North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. North Carolina Tar Heels: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The ACC Tournament isn’t being played in North Carolina this year with the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. the venue, but Saturday’s final will certainly have a distinct N.C. flavor.

The North Carolina Tar Heels and the North Carolina State Wolfpack are going head-to-head for conference glory. With the game tipping off at 8:30 pm ET tonight on ESPN, it’s time to break down the betting odds and make our best bets.

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. North Carolina Tar Heels betting picks and predictions

North Carolina Tar Heels -8.5 (-150)

The Wolfpack have done incredibly well to reach the final of the ACC Tournament. After ousting Louisville and Syracuse, they upset Duke in the quarterfinals and then staged a miracle comeback at the end of regulation and stunned Virginia 73-65 in the semis.

Unfortunately for N.C. State, that is where the good news likely ends.

This team now has to take the court for a fifth day in a row, whereas the well-rested Tar Heels are playing for just the third time in this tournament because they got a double-bye as the ACC’s No. 1 seed.

North Carolina is the far superior team even when all things are equal – and in this case all things most definitely aren't equal.

Armando Bacot, R.J. Davis and the rest of an experienced UNC squad will almost certainly be way to good for the upstart ‘Pack.

Under 148.5 total points (-200)

The under also looks like a great bet for this matchup. One of the head-to-head contests during the regular season went over this current number but did so by just a single point in a 79-70 North Carolina victory.

The other showdown was a defensive slog, won by the Tar Heels 67-54.

UNC’s defense has been stifling so far in Washington, D.C. It held Florida State to 67 points and Pittsburgh to 65.

With the Wolfpack playing their fifth game in five days, they are undoubtedly running on fumes.

They are expected to slow down the pace as much as possible; they aren’t going to win – or even compete – in a track meet with the Heels.

N.C. State may not even reach the 60 mark on Saturday night.

N.C. State team total under 67.5 (-130)

As mentioned above, the Wolfpack will likely be hard pressed to score many points tonight. They averaged a mere 62 points per game against North Carolina during the regular season – and that was when they were rested.

Now they have four games in four days already in their legs. A fifth game in five days against the best team in the conference is not a recipe for success.

Leading scorer DJ Horne has logged 38 minutes per game over the past two days and already looked fatigued against Virginia (2-for-9 from the floor, 0-for-5 from three-point range).

This game does look like it will be low scoring, so N.C. State Under 67.5 points is worth considering.
