Creighton vs. UConn Women: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The No. 3 UConn Huskies take on the No. 23 Creighton Bluejays on Monday at 7 PM ET in the Big East Conference Tournament championship game.

UConn is looking for its fifth straight conference tournament crown since rejoining the Big East. That would be the program's 23rd overall, having won each of the last four finals by an average of nearly 28 points.

The Huskies advanced to the final with an 82-54 victory over Villanova, with Conference Player of the Year Paige Bueckers hitting 23 points and six assists and Freshman of the Year Sarah Strong added 20 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.

UConn’s opponent is Creighton, which knocked off Seton Hall 73-44 in the semifinals. This is Creighton’s first trip to the championship game since 2016, with the Bluejays’ last tournament triumph coming as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference in 2012.

UConn won both matchups against Creighton this season. Bueckers had 22 points and Strong added 26 points and 12 rebounds in a 72-61 victory in Omaha in January. Maly led the Bluejays with 14 points and nine rebounds, followed by Molly Mogensen with 14 points and seven rebounds, Lauren Jensen with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Brooke Littrell with 12 points.

In the return bout in Hartford last month, UConn claimed a 72-53 win with Strong hitting another 22 points and nine rebounds and Bueckers adding 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Creighton vs. UConn betting picks and predictions

It has been another season of the Huskies destroying conference opponents. UConn completed its second consecutive undefeated conference run, winning 18 games by an average of more than 34 points. Creighton was the only team to lose by less than 18 points. That’s saying something, but not enough to pick them to cover the spread here.

Bueckers became the fourth player in league history to win the Player of the Year award three times, joining Shelly Pennefather, Kerry Bascom and Maya Moore. She leads the Huskies with 18.6 points per game, to go with five assists and 4.5 rebounds. Strong is averaging 16.1 points and 7.9 rebounds.

UConn has now won 37 consecutive conference regular season games and throttled St. John’s and Villanova by an average of 29.5 points in their first two tournament games. 

Jensen is averaging 18 points and Maly 17.5 points for the Bluejays, who will make the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season for the first time in school history, and for the eighth time overall in coach Jim Flanery’s 23 seasons. This is a very good Creighton squad that has shown it can hang with the Huskies.

But in the championship game, Auriemma’s squads take it to another level, so look for the Huskies to win their fifth straight tournament title and cover the 18.5-point spread as favorites.

Although this is a tournament championship game, look for a similar result again.

UConn is allowing 47 points a game in the tournament, and Creighton is allowing just 57 points.
