Connecticut vs. Marquette: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The top two teams in the Big East will meet on Wednesday night as No. 2 Connecticut travels to face No. 8 Marquette.

The defending NCAA champion Connecticut (26-3 overall, 16-2 conference), ranked second in the country, have clinched their first outright Big East title in 25 years. Now, with two games left in the regular season, they are working on sewing up a top seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament, while also building momentum for next week’s Big East Conference tournament at Madison Square Garden.

They travel to Milwaukee this evening to face No. 8 Marquette (22-7, 13-5), which is trying to hold off Creighton for the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. These two met up in Storrs, Connecticut a couple of weeks ago, with the Huskies coming away with a dominant, 81-53 victory.

Read below to see our experts’ picks and predictions for this Big East clash.

Connecticut vs. Marquette betting picks and predictions

Connecticut -5 (-115)

The Huskies have steamrolled the Big East, losing just once in the last 11 weeks, going 16-1 during that time. UConn’s average margin of victory in those 16 wins is nearly 19 points, including seven wins by 24 points or more. That includes an 81-53 shellacking of the Golden Eagles on February 17th.

More importantly, Marquette will be without Tyler Kolek, the preseason All-American who leads Division I with 7.6 assists while adding 15 points and 4.7 rebounds. The Golden Eagles lost their first game without Kolek, 89-75 at Creighton on Saturday.

This game should be a tighter affair in Milwaukee, as UConn is only 6-3 on the road and Marquette is 14-1 at home, including six straight wins. However, UConn simply has more depth and coach Danny Hurley has been adamant about the team keeping their foot on the pedal. The Huskies are favored by five points and should cover that spread.

UCONN is 18-11 against the spread this season, while Marquette is 17-11-1.

Total Points Under 151.5 (-110)

Connecticut averages more than 81 points a game and Marquette is not too far behind, averaging over 79 a contest. However, the teams combine to allow a total of just over 133 points a game.

In the first contest this season between these top Big East opponents, the total was 134 points in a Connecticut blowout. Both teams have played over 152 points in less than half their games this season. The current over/under prediction for this contest is 151.5 points, and we believe UConn and Marquette will play to the under.
