Read below to see our experts’ predictions for this huge SEC matchup.
For our first best bet in this game, we will be targeting the Alabama Crimson Tide to cover. The Crimson Tide enter this game with a record of 13-2 (2-0 in the SEC). They are coming off a huge road win against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Wednesday night, beating them 88-68.
The Tide are known for their balanced offense this season with five players averaging at least 10 points per game. Leading the way is Mark Sears, who averages 18.5 points per game and is a potential Wooden Award contender.
Grant Nelson is also having a solid season so far, averaging 12.6 points per game, which is second on the team and he is the leading rebounder, averaging 8.7 rebounds per game.
As for the Aggies, they enter this game also 13-2 (2-0 in the SEC). They are coming off a wild comeback win against the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday night, beating them 80-78 after being down by as many as 18 points.
The Aggies have not been as balanced offensively this season with just two players averaging in double figures. This includes Wade Taylor IV, who averages 15.7 points per game, and Zhuric Phelps, who averages 14.8 points per game and just scored a career-best 34 points against the Sooners.
As good as Texas A&M has been this season, needing a huge comeback against the Sooners is slightly concerning. Especially considering it required a 34-point performance from Phelps.
Meanwhile, Alabama is blowing out nearly every team they play. Because the Crimson Tide have a much more balanced offense with multiple players averaging in double figures, backing Alabama -2.5 at -110 to cover will be our first best bet.
Our second best bet for this game will focus on backing the over. It goes without saying that Alabama has been the best offense in the country so far this season. As a team, the Crimson Tide are averaging 90.9 points per game, which includes an average of 97.5 points per game in their two SEC games.
Defensively, Alabama has been a bit more vulnerable, allowing an average of 76.7 points per game, which ranks 310th in the country.
On the other side, Texas A&M has been a more defensive team, allowing just 63.5 points per game, which is tied for 21st in the country. Offensively, they are averaging 76.7 points per game, which ranks 146th in the country and they have averaged 80 points per game in their two SEC games.
There looks to be a clash of play styles in this game as Alabama will likely look to push the tempo, while Texas A&M will be content with slowing things down. That said, both the Aggies and Crimson Tide have had issues defensively this season, especially in their SEC games so far. For that reason, backing the over 161.0 at -110 will be our second best bet.
