Nine media members vote for the Conference Finals MVP Awards in either conference. Seven of the voters are part of the national NBA media while two are beat reporters from the local markets of the teams competing in the series.
The Western Conference Finals MVP Trophy is called the Magic Johnson Trophy, named after the legendary Los Angeles Lakers guard. The Eastern Conference version of the trophy is named after Johnson's Eastern Conference rival, Larry Bird.
The trophy is silver with a basketball on top of a pedestal and is made to look like the Conference Championship trophy, according to the NBA.
