Sacramento Kings vs. Los Angeles Lakers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Los Angeles Lakers put their perfect record on the line against California rivals the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night and an intriguing clash could unfold at the Crypto.com Arena.

The hosts come into this clash as favorites but they will be wary having endured a miserable time against the Kings last term.

Sacramento Kings vs. Los Angeles Lakers betting picks and predictions

Sacramento Kings ML (-105)

The JJ Reddick era at the Lakers has started tremendously, with the former NBA player, who only retired in 2021, winning each of his opening two matches as a coach.

Eyebrows were raised when the Lakers head office announced Reddick would become Darvin Ham’s successor given the 40-year-old had no prior coaching experience. However, Reddick has made the transition into coaching smoothly, leading the Lakers to two impressive wins already.

Los Angeles beat the Minnesota Timberwolves - last season’s Western Conference finalists - 110-103 in their opener before landing a 123-116 victory over the Phoenix Suns, who have big-name stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal in their ranks.

However, while their start under Reddick has been impressive, all good things must come to an end and there are a couple of factors which make them look vulnerable against the Sacramento Kings.

Firstly, Los Angeles have played two games this term while the Kings have only played one. Furthermore, Sacramento last played on Thursday while the Lakers were in action on Friday night in a tough game against the Suns, meaning the Kings have a huge rest advantage for this clash.

The Lakers’ star man, LeBron James, is now 39 years old and their next best player, Anthony Davis, has constantly struggled with injuries throughout his career. Playing three games in a short span of time is likely to weigh heavy on the Lakers and they may struggle against the fresher Kings.

Secondly, the Kings have dominated this fixture recently. Mike Brown’s side won all four meetings with the Lakers last term, with the last three of those victories coming via a margin of at least 10 points.

Given that record, at the odds, it is certainly worth backing Sacramento to get one over their California rivals again.

Austin Reaves over 16.5 points (-125)

While a win may prove beyond the Lakers, one of their key reasons for their perfect start to the campaign should continue his own excellent start when the Kings visit their rivals on Saturday.

With the Kings’ primary defenders likely to be preoccupied with James and Davis, space could open up for Austin Reaves, who has started the season strongly and has enjoyed his meetings with Sacramento of late.

The Lakers guard scored 18 points the last time the Kings visited the Crypto.com Arena before notching a huge 28 in the last head-to-head in March.

Reaves struggled from beyond the arc in the Lakers’ season opener, missing all five of his three-point attempts, but came alive against the Suns, knocking down five of his seven threes to help Los Angeles get over the line.

Sacramento’s defensive prowess is much closer to the Suns’ than the Timberwolves’ given Minnesota were the league’s best defence last term, suggesting Reaves could be in for another big night at the Crypto.com Arena.

Domantas Sabonis to have 15+ rebounds (+165)

Lakers center Davis has been strong on the boards this season, averaging 12 per game this term, but may struggle to dominate in the paint on Saturday as he faces a fearsome glass-cleaning foe in Domantas Sabonis.

The Lithuanian was a real thorn in Davis’ side last term, with his rebounding dominance a huge reason for the Kings’ four wins over the Lakers. Sabonis had 15, 16, 20 and 19 rebounds in those four victories and looks set to grab plenty of boards once again.

The Kings star’s rebound line has been set at over 12.5 but, given his numbers versus the Lakers last term, it could pay to back him to grab 15 at bigger odds, especially as he will be fresher than his opposite number Davis thanks to an extra day’s rest.

Those on the hunt for even bigger odds could also consider backing the +450 for Sabonis to notch a triple double at the Crypto.com Arena, as it is a feat he has achieved in each of his last two appearances against the Lakers.
