Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant will soon be joining a very exclusive group - the 30,000 points club - but the chances of it happening against his former team in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night are looking increasingly remote.
The Suns face off against the OKC Thunder, the franchise with which KD played the first nine years of his career, on Wednesday night.
Devin Booker made history for the Suns on Monday night when he became the franchise's all-time leading scorer, but he didn't get the fairytale finish he craved as the Suns lost to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Now it's Kevin Durant's turn as he's 26 points away from the 30,000 mark, although the chances of his big night arriving this week are getting slimmer by the hour.
Whether he does it with the Suns is questionable, as trade speculation is dogging the ninth-highest scorer in NBA history.
He was downgraded to 'doubtful' for the trip to OKC thanks to a combination of a slight injury and trade talk making it less and less likely he suits up.
Beating the Thunder looks like a huge task for the 25-24 Suns, who have lost three of their last four and are completing a four-game road trip. And it would get even more difficult without Durant.
The 36-year-old played 45 minutes in Monday's overtime 121-119 loss to the Blazers - Booker played 46. Without him, Booker and Bradley Beal will need season-best efforts simply to match up to what the Thunder will throw at them.
The Thunder, meanwhile, continue to dominate the West with a 39-9 record. Their 39th win was in Monday night's magnificent 125-96 dismantling of an admittedly under-manned Milwaukee Bucks team.
OKC beat Phoenix 99-83 when they met on November 15; they won all three meetings last season. The smallest margin of victory in those four matches was eight points.
Suns' fans and potential backers will tell you keeping Oklahoma City to under 100 points is a tick in the box and they are 14-4 when holding teams to under triple figures. But that was then.
Now, Durant is trending towards not playing and Phoenix is 1-9 when he does not appear.
OKC has covered the spread in 31 of 48 matches this season and can do so again here.
You look at a number like 43.5 for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's points, assists and rebounds and surely say to yourself, 'he can hit that without the rebounds and assists.'
And he has - several times in this extraordinary season. Last Thursday he put up 52 points against the Warriors, a week earlier 54 against Utah.
This week, his numbers have been more modest. He posted 29 points in the Thunder's 144-110 hammering of Sacramento and then 34 points in the 125-96 defeat of the Bucks.
But his points, rebounds and assists totals in those two games were 44 and 43 respectively.
However, here's the rub. He didn't even get off the bench for the fourth quarter in either game, playing just 22 minutes against Golden State.
SGA has registered his displeasure at a lack of court time with coach Mark Daigneault and it will be interesting to see the response from the coach, especially if Oklahoma City has this in the bag early.
Either way, the idea that he goes Over 43.5 points, rebounds and assists looks better than the odds imply.
The Thunder allow the fewest points per game at 104.5, keep opponents to the lowest field goal percentage and the lowest three-point percentage, and force the most turnovers.
This is what Bradley Beal and the Suns' offense needs to break down at the Paycom and it's going to be a tall order.
Beal's having a good season, averaging 17.1 points per game, and he will be needed to step up if Durant doesn't make it, but probability suggests he won't get to 18.5 points.
