Philadelphia 76ers vs. New York Knicks Game 2: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The NBA Playoffs are officially underway and the Philadelphia 76ers are preparing to take on the New York Knicks in Game 2 of their series, after falling to a 111-104 defeat in the opener.

Although the 76ers jumped out to an early lead, the Knicks battled back and outscored Philly by 10 in the fourth quarter to take the win.

Now, New York will try to grab a two-game lead in the series and secure another homecourt victory.

Philadelphia trail second-seed New York by a game, but Joel Embiid and company will still have their eyes set on a Game 2 road victory.

The 76ers played great in the first and third quarters in Game 1, outscoring New York by 24 points, but the hosts dominated the second and fourth quarters by 31 points.

If Embiid can stay healthy, a similar outcome is not expected. The 30-year-old exited the game with 2:37 left in the second quarter of G1 after getting banged up, and New York closed the half on a 7-0 run.

Saturday’s loss marked Philly’s first defeat in 10 games, but they look to have every chance of bouncing back. Although the hosts pulled away in the fourth quarter in Game 1, Philadelphia will be ready for the Knicks’ various scoring runs.

If Embiid stays on the court for 40+ minutes, the 76ers could possibly pull off an upset.

Under 204

Although Game 1 finished with 215 points, a low-scoring affair could be on the cards second time up.

Both teams rely on their defense to win games, as the Knicks had the ninth-best defensive rating and the 76ers carried the 11th-best rank.

When Embiid is on the floor, Philly’s defense elevates, as the Knicks struggle to attack the rim when he’s in. These teams have historically battled in low-scoring contests, as eight of their last 10 meetings at Madison Square Garden finished under the total.

The Knicks will likely feel like Game 1 was too high-scoring for their liking, and as stated above, this match should run at a snail’s pace.

New York ranked dead-last in the NBA in tempo this season, while Philadelphia ranked in the bottom half. Expect a defensive slugfest and choose the under for Game 2.

Jalen Brunson Under 11.5 Rebounds + Assists (-105)

The opening game of their series was a gritty, low-scoring affair. As we approach Game 2, expectations are for an even tighter defensive showdown, with the total at a remarkably low 204 points. Get ready for a methodical pace and strong defense, setting the stage for a potential fade of Knicks PG Jalen Brunson.

The defensive strategy employed by the 76ers, particularly with Embiid anchoring the paint, relies heavily on drop coverage. While this tends to yield pull-up jumpers, it also exposes vulnerabilities to scorers like Brunson attacking the basket.

However, in their last 15 outings, Philadelphia has protected the rim and contested above-the-break threes, which together account for 67.2% of Brunson’s assists this season.

When it comes to rebounding, Brunson's preferred hunting ground for boards - long midranges - has witnessed Philadelphia's improvement, limiting field goal attempts from that zone.

Since Julius Randle's injury, Brunson has thrived, averaging 12.1 rebounds and assists per 40 minutes with OG Anunoby in the lineup. In the first game of the series, Brunson exceeded this mark, albeit with unusually high efficiency, securing seven rebounds on 10 opportunities and dishing out seven assists on 12 potential chances.

Facing a strong defense, Brunson looks set to be challenged and backing him to get no more than 10 Rebounds and Assists in Game 2 seems like a smart play.
