Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Oklahoma City Thunder will look to continue their fine start to the season when they take on the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

Even after fighting through some early injury adversity, the Oklahoma City Thunder have looked every bit the part of an NBA title contender this season. The Thunder are currently sporting an 11-3 record, with impressive victories over the likes of Phoenix, Denver, Houston and New Orleans during this early season push.

On Tuesday, they'll take on a San Antonio Spurs team that has taken considerable strides toward playing competitive basketball with the playoff teams in the Western Conference. Much of this is due to the influx of veterans on the roster, along with the continued ascent of Victor Wembanyama in his second season. How will this matchup shake out?

This game promises to be an exciting battle between Western Conference foes on Tuesday, so let's get into our expert's betting picks and predictions for this important tilt in Phoenix.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. San Antonio Spurs betting picks and predictions

Thunder -8.5 (-110)

Oklahoma City is sitting atop the Western Conference heading into this game, but the Thunder are looking to get back on track in this one against the San Antonio Spurs following a 121-119 loss to the Luka Doncic-less Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

In that matchup, the Thunder trailed by 14 points halfway through the final quarter and rallied to tie the game behind 36 and 27-point efforts from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams, respectively, but their efforts fell just short in what was easily the most disappointing loss of the young season for Oklahoma City.

As for the hosts, the Spurs currently sit at 12th in the Western Conference with a record of 6-8, but there are clear strides being made by Wembenyama and company. Gregg Popovich's team enters this game following back-to-back defeats against the Mavericks and Lakers.

San Antonio was without its all-world superstar against Dallas, and having already been downgraded to doubtful, it appears as though they'll face the top team in the west without their star once again.

The Thunder are an extremely versatile team, which is part of what makes them so good. Oklahoma City has adjusted very well to Chet Holmgren's injury, which will see him sidelined for the foreseeable future. The Thunder are 3-1 since he went down, thanks to a rock-solid defense that has allowed the second-fewest points per game, along with committing the league's fewest turnovers per game.

With Wembanyama unlikely to suit up in this one, it's hard to see Oklahoma City's momentum slowing down anytime soon, particularly against an overmatched opponent.

All things considered, our expert's best bet is on the Thunder -8.5 (-110) in this matchup between conference foes.

Under 222.5 (-110)

A Thunder-winning game script is one that doesn't have to revolve around offense. That should be the case once again on Tuesday, especially with Wembanyama listed as doubtful for this contest.

Even if Wembanyama was going to play in this one, the Thunder are consistently shutting down their opponents this season. In fact, Oklahoma City is first in the league in defensive rating, allowing just over 100 points per 100 possessions, which is by far the best mark in basketball to this point in the season.

The Spurs' defense was inconsistent a season ago, but the insertion of more veterans into this lineup has done wonders for San Antonio on that side of the ball. Heading into this game, the Spurs are 11th in defensive rating while also sitting at 21st in pace on offense, which bodes well for a game script that skews toward the under.

This should be a game where both teams end up clearing 100 points, but don't expect both units to hit 110 points on Sunday. Therefore, let's go with Under 222.5 (-110) for our game totals prediction.
