New Orleans Pelicans vs. Sacramento Kings: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Pelicans head to Sacramento to take on the Kings at 10 PM ET on Thursday, with New Orleans narrowly holding onto the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, just ahead of Phoenix Suns.

The Kings will have to settle for a play-in spot this season, but they will be keen to secure eighth as opposed to ninth in order to have two chances of making the playoffs, making this clash in Sacramento a huge one for both teams.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Sacramento Kings betting picks and predictions

New Orleans Pelicans to win (-105)

With both teams playing to ensure the best finish possible, there may be very little between these two Western Conference sides on Thursday night.

However, the form suggests it may be the visitors who come away with the win. The Pelicans have enjoyed an excellent run lately, especially on their travels where they have won eight of their last 10 on the road, including all of their last four.

The Kings, meanwhile, have suffered three losses in their last five matches, and history hints that New Orleans should prevail. The Pelicans have won the last four clashes between the pair and look set to make that five on the spin with a victory which would see them all but confirm the final playoff spot in the West.

New Orleans have beaten Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns - two sides who, on paper, are better than the Kings - in their ongoing winning run on the road, suggesting they can enjoy a fruitful trip to California on Thursday.

Jonas Valanciunas over 7.5 rebounds (+110)

Whenever the Kings play the Pelicans, there is one particular matchup that is always worth watching: Jonas Valanciunas vs. Domantas Sabonis.

The two European giants - both 6'11 - will be battling on the boards all night in Sacramento, but it may be a shock who comes out on top.

Sabonis leads the NBA in rebounds this season, averaging a huge 13.8 boards per game, but his stats take a big dip when taking on New Orleans. In his four games against the Pelicans this term the big Lithuanian has averaged 10.5 rebounds.

Valanciunas, by contrast, is averaging only 8.9 rebounds per game this term - enough to put him 18th in the league rankings in that statistic - but seems to find an extra gear when cleaning the glass against Sacramento - averaging 11.8 against the Kings in four meetings this season.

Given Sabonis’ clear struggles against Valanciunas, it could be worth backing the Pelicans Center to get at least eight rebounds on Thursday - something which could prove pivotal in his side’s efforts to win the tie.

CJ McCollum 30 points milestone (+250)

With Brandon Ingram still out for the Pelicans, the onus will again fall on Zion Williamson and CJ McCollum to put points on the board for the West’s sixth-seeded team, with the latter poised to have a big game in Sacramento.

McCollum has enjoyed an excellent run of form lately, scoring 36, 31, 31 and 29 points in his last four games, with that high-scoring streak set to continue against the Kings.

De’Aaron Fox is a very athletic guard and an excellent offensive player, but his defensive qualities leave a lot to be desired and McCollum could find himself free more often than not when the Pelicans have possession.

He has averaged only 23.5 points in his two games against the Kings this term but he played an average of just 31.5 minutes in those contests. McCollum’s playing time over the past 10 games has risen to 38.5 minutes per match and he could score plenty more this time around as a result of his increased role in the team.
