The NBA’s Most Improved Player award is given to the player who has made the greatest improvement during the regular season compared with their previous seasons in the league.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker of the Atlanta Hawks won the Most Improved Player award for the 2025–26 regular season. NAW averaged a career-high 20.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
Since being drafted in 2019, Alexander-Walker had never averaged more than 13 points per game in a single season and had averaged just 9.4 points per game the previous season.
Other recent winners of the MIP award include Dyson Daniels (2025), Tyrese Maxey (2024) and Lauri Markkanen (2023).
The Most Improved Player award is incredibly difficult to predict, but Brandon Miller of the Charlotte Hornets and Dylan Harper of the San Antonio Spurs enter the 2026–27 season with the shortest odds to win it.
Other pre-season contenders include Payton Pritchard, Ausar Thompson and Ty Jerome.
