Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics Game 2: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics will face off against one another at TD Garden in Massachusetts for Game 2 of their first-round series in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Boston took Game 1 114-94 on Sunday and they have their eyes set on extending their series lead to two games. Miami was never really close to winning on Sunday, so it’ll be interesting to see if coach Erik Spoelstra can get his team to respond.

Without further ado, let’s dive into our betting picks for Game 2 between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics tonight.

Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics Game 2 betting picks and predictions

Boston Celtics -14.5 (-110)

Facing a dire situation in Game 2, the Miami Heat head to TD Garden in Boston to take on the formidable Celtics.

Game 1 saw the Celtics dominate with a commanding 114-94 victory, fueled by a stellar 23-point triple-double from Jayson Tatum and 20 points from Derrick White.

With Jimmy Butler sidelined due to injury and Terry Rozier also out for the Heat, the odds seem stacked against Miami for tonight's matchup.

To stand a chance, the Heat must regroup and make significant adjustments. Firstly, they need a stronger start to avoid falling into an early deficit like in the previous game, where the Celtics surged to a 14-0 lead.

Secondly, Miami must tighten their defense against Boston's sharpshooters, who tormented them with 44.9 percent three-point shooting in Game 1.

Although Spoelstra's coaching could provide some answers, the Celtics appear poised for another dominant performance. Boston's depth and determination to avenge last season's playoff series loss to Miami make them formidable opponents.

While Miami may put up a fight early on, expect Boston to assert their dominance and secure another convincing victory.

A first-round sweep seems within reach for the Celtics, given their efficient play in Game 1 and the absence of significant challenges from the Heat. Despite Miami's resilience, Boston's superior talent and motivation should carry them to a 15+ point victory once again.

Over 203.5 points (-110)

Erik Spoelstra faces a daunting challenge as he seeks adjustments to counter the Eastern Conference's top-seeded Celtics, especially with key players Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier sidelined.

The Celtics are determined to avenge their heartbreaking playoff exit at the hands of the Heat in seven grueling games in last year's Eastern Conference Finals.

Boston's lethal three-point shooting, highlighted by a blistering 44.9 percent accuracy in Game 1, presents a major obstacle for Miami. While the Heat must focus on perimeter defense to contain Boston's sharpshooters, this strategy risks leaving Bam Adebayo vulnerable to attacks in the paint.

Despite Miami's efforts, containing the Celtics' offensive firepower appears to be an insurmountable task.

However, the Heat may exhibit a stronger start and more offensive prowess this time around and that increases the likelihood of the game surpassing the Total Points threshold.

While Miami strives to bounce back, the Celtics' dominance and sharpshooting prowess suggest another challenging encounter awaits. Anticipate a high-scoring affair tonight and back Over 203.5 points.

Jayson Tatum Over 8.5 Rebounds (-140)

Boston’s Jayson Tatum is one to look out for in the player props tonight, specifically his rebound total. It's currently set at 8.5 and, in the playoffs, that is more than achievable. After all, he secured a game-high 10 rebounds in Game 1 and he did that on 12 rebounding chances, per NBA Advanced Stats.

Notably, he logged an extensive 41 minutes on the court, surpassing all other Celtics starters by about seven minutes. That shows how Boston is light on wing depth, as three-point sharpshooter Sam Hauser is the only player who gives either Tatum or Jaylen Brown a break during a game.

Given the Celtics' determination to avenge their playoff loss to Miami, anticipate coach Joe Mazzulla to continue to heavily rely on Tatum, potentially seeing him clock 38+ minutes once again.

Considering Tatum's average rebounding distance of 6.5 feet - the shortest average rebound distance of any Celtic - it's evident he's a key figure in their forward lineup alongside Brown and Porzingis or Horford. Plus, he grabbed rebounds on a league-high 68.3 percent of his rebounding chances in the regular season.

Tatum consistently met or exceeded this rebounding benchmark in the last postseason, especially against Miami, hitting it in 15 out of 20 games and five out of seven matchups with the Heat.
