Memphis Grizzlies vs. Philadelphia 76ers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

Both the Memphis Grizzlies and the Philadelphia 76ers have had a less-than-ideal start to the new NBA season. The Sixers have yet to see former MVP Joel Embiid take to the court, with the side losing three of their first four games in his absence.

Memphis were looking for a bounceback year after star man Ja Morant missed most of the 2023/24 season. While they’ve got their point guard back, injuries to rotation players have been an issue in a 3-3 start.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Philadelphia 76ers betting picks and predictions

Philadelphia 76ers to win and both teams to score 100 points (+140)

The Sixers face their first game since Wednesday’s loss to the Detroit Pistons and that break should have helped Nick Nurse’s side regroup. While they await Joel Embiid and Paul George returning to fitness, those two All-Stars will miss plenty more games between now and April. Philly has to get used to being without them moving forward.

The Sixers look like a decent matchup for a Grizzlies side who are without Luke Kennard, Vince Williams, Marcus Smart, GG Jackson and Desmond Bane on Saturday night.

The Grizzlies have been put in a position where they needed to restock their depth heading into this campaign and this wave of unavailable players doesn’t exactly help their roster settle.

Memphis have also dropped some bad games lately, losing 126-123 to the Chicago Bulls and 119-106 to the Brooklyn Nets. While Philly have their top two guys missing, their free agency bonanza in the summer added good rotation players who pair well with Tyrese Maxey.

Nurse is a coach who has a track record of grinding out results without his star man, so their fortunes should turn before long. That can start this weekend, as Memphis have played twice since Philly last took to the court.

However, the Sixers have yet to hold a team under 100 points and their opponents have scored at least 105 points in every game. Take the added bump of Philly to win and the Grizzlies to reach three figures once again.

Tyrese Maxey Over 30.5 points (-110)

With Embiid and George out, everything Philly does flows through Maxey. The young guard had to run the side for large chunks of last season when Embiid was sidelined, but this season’s Sixers have more capable depth around him.

General Manager Daryl Morey admitted that Embiid and George will get frequent breaks throughout the season to save them for the playoffs. That’s impacted the roster the Sixers have built, as they look to Maxey and co. to carry them through to the postseason.

Maxey has delivered so far, averaging 31.5 points per game. The Grizzlies will look to counter him with Jaren Jackson Jr’s defensive ability, but the guard scored 24 points in his worst shooting display of the season.

Maxey has put up at least 10 three-pointers in his last three matches and he can add points in the paint - finishing well around the rim and from the free-throw line. The All-Star is well-rested and with a combined 77 points across his last two appearances, he can trouble Memphis.

Zach Edey under 14.5 combined points and rebounds (-105)

Rookie Edey has been limited to less than 18 minutes per night so far and he’s averaging just 5.0 rebounds per game. He was one of the most intriguing prospects in the draft but there were warnings that he would need to adapt his game.

Edey has hit double-figures for points just three times this season and Saturday pits him against Philadelphia’s Andre Drummond. The center is one of the rebounding leaders with 12.5 per game and that should impact Edey’s numbers.

The Grizzlies are a good rebounding side overall, with four players averaging more boards than Edey. Between his teammates and the opposition, it’s easy to see Edey’s numbers being squeezed in this clash.
