Minnesota Timberwolves host Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA on Saturday night in a match-up between two teams who could meet in the playoffs.
The Grizzlies (24-14) sit in third place in the West but they arrive at the Target Center seeking to rediscover their form after winning just two of their last six games.
The home side are in the play-in spots as it stands but the Timberwolves (20-17) are well placed to break into the top six and they have hit some form as they are seeking to extend a three-game winning run.
There is a chance these two teams could contest a best-of-seven series in the playoffs but Minnesota may be one outfit that Memphis are keen to avoid.
The Grizzlies have struggled in recent meetings with their hosts as they’ve lost each of the last four games, although this is the first time these teams have come up against each other since February.
Consistency has been a major issue for the Timberwolves this season but they do appear to have turned a bit of a corner with six wins in their last nine games and they’ve tended to do well against conference rivals in home games, winning five of their last six against teams from the Western Conference at the Target Center.
Memphis has hit a bit of a rough patch with three defeats in its last four games and all of those losses have come against conference rivals.
Minnesota looks to be the team with the momentum here and should be able to cover a modest -1.5 handicap in the Point Spread as the Timberwolves have outscored their opponents by a combined total of 24 points across their last three games.
Ja Morant over 26.5 points & assists - -140
The Memphis Grizzlies might be going through a mini slump but star man Ja Morant is working his way towards his best form.
Morant had a poor night in terms of shooting in the defeat to the Houston Rockets last time out, going just over 40% from the field, but still managed to finish up with 27 points in total, as well as weighing in with three assists and three rebounds.
Morant is averaging 21.5 points-per-game for the season and 7.7 assists. The Memphis point guard has managed 27 or more points and assists combined in five of his last eight games and in six of his last seven road games, so he should be able to make his mark in Minnesota even if he can’t help guide his team to a win, and at least 29 points and rebounds combined is within his compass.
As a big price option, a Julius Randle double-double has a chance after he recorded 23 points and 10 rebounds in Minnesota’s win over Orlando Magic in their last game.
Points and boards are the stats we’re really looking at for this bet for the Timberwolves big man, and he’s averaging a solid 19.6 ppg and 7.0 rebounds.
Randle has reached double figures in points in 17 consecutive games and has three double-doubles in his last 10. He’s gone close in a few other contests during that 10-game run as he’s reached eight in rebounds twice and once in assists, so he looks the best option to record a double-double n Saturday night.
