Denver Nuggets are looking to extend a nine-game winning streak when they host key Western Conference rivals the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.
There is a reasonable chance Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers will meet in the Playoffs after the regular season comes to a close, with the hosts currently third in the standings with a 37-19 record and the Lakers fifth on 33-21.
A best-of-seven series between these two teams would be fascinating in the postseason but right now Denver are the finished article and the visitors are a team in transition.
The Lakers pulled off a stunning trade to bring in Luka Doncic from Dallas Mavericks at the start of February but the Slovenian arrived injured and has only played three games so far, for a total of 44 minutes, and he sat out the win over Portland Trail Blazers last time out.
Doncic may be missing again at the Ball Arena, and even if he is involved the Nuggets look well placed to continue their nine-game winning run.
Denver won by 25 points when these teams met in LA back in November. The margin of victory may not be quite as large this time around but they should be able to beat a -7 handicap in the Point Spread.
The Nuggets have won their last eight at home and all of those wins have come by at least 10 points.
The Lakers have been in good form on the road, going 6-2 over their last eight away games, but they do have a tendency to collapse when they lose and their last four road losses have all been by double digits.
LeBron James is averaging 8.9 assists per-game for the season, his third highest total in that particular statistic in his 22nd season in the NBA, and over 8.5 looks an achievable target for the Lakers veteran in Denver.
James has had at least nine assists in eight of his last 14 games, falling one short in a further three of those games, and he had seven when these teams last met in November.
The 40-year-old only had four dimes in the win over Portland in the Lakers’ last game but he took on a bit more responsibility in scoring there, hitting 40 points, and against a more balanced team like the Nuggets he should slot back into a more creative role when required.
Denver Nuggets star center Nikola Jokic is averaging 12.7 rebounds per-game for the season and he should be able to finish up with at least 12 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jokic had 13 boards when these teams last met in LA, while he had at least 12 in all five games when the Nuggets and Lakers met in the first round of the Playoffs last season.
The three-time MVP had 17 rebounds in Denver’s win over Charlotte Hornets in their first game since the All-Star break and he should be able to reach 12 fairly comfortably on Saturday.
