Los Angeles Clippers vs. Houston Rockets: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

Action in the NBA continues on Wednesday night with an eight-game slate which features a Western Conference matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets.

The Clippers went through a rough patch after James Harden was acquired, but since then, they have been one of the best teams in the Association. Los Angeles is currently in fourth place in the Western Conference and only three games out of first.

It’s a new era in Houston with Ime Udoka as the coach, and it has led to a decent amount of success this year. The Rockets are 27-34 and are just outside the bubble of making the playoffs. A strong end to the season could put Houston into the 10 spot, so there is still plenty to play for in what could prove a tight matchup on Wednesday.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Houston Rockets betting picks and predictions

Houston Rockets +7 (-115)

The Rockets have defended their home court well with a 21-10 record in Houston. They have won four of their last five home games, which includes wins over the Suns and Knicks.

The biggest change from last season to this has been Houston’s defensive presence. Last year, the Rockets ranked 29th in defensive rating. Houston prioritized offense and played very little defense, but that has changed this season with Udoka as coach. Houston ranks 7th in defensive rating this season, and that will be their key to success against the Clippers.

These teams have met once already this season, and the Clippers defeated the Rockets 106-100. That game was played in Los Angeles, so the setting will change for tonight’s game. Plus, Los Angeles has been very inconsistent lately.

Although they beat the Timberwolves in Minnesota, they’ve lost to the Lakers, Bucks, and Kings in the last two weeks.

This is the perfect opportunity for the Rockets to steal a win, but if they can’t do that, they can at least keep this game within seven points and cover the spread.

Under 223.0 points (-110)

Since the All-Star break, scores have been lower than ever in the NBA this season, while it is worth noting the first game between these two teams had just 206 points scored.

Five of the last six games involving the Rockets have also gone under the total. Defense has become more important for Houston, and it’s starting to show.

Low-scoring games aren’t just happening to the Rockets. Five of the Clippers’ last six games have stayed under the total. These teams have become very similar in the fact that they don’t rely on perimeter shots and will use the mid-range and paint for the majority of their scoring.

That strategy also correlates to a lower-scoring game, so the total of 223 seems just a tad bit too high. Between two teams that prioritize defense, the Under is the way to go.

Alperen Sengun Over 9.5 Rebounds (-115)

Houston’s big man has been phenomenal on the boards recently. Alperen Sengun has recorded at least 10 rebounds in five of the last six games.

For an even bigger sample size, he has accomplished double digit rebounds in 15 of the last 21 games. Fortunately for Sengun, he has a generous matchup against the Clippers tonight.

Los Angeles has struggled on the boards this season as Ivica Zubac hasn’t been as productive as expected. That has led to the Clippers being ranked 20th in the league in rebounding this season, but in just the last 10 games, they’re even worse at 25th.

Sengun will rarely wander to the perimeter for a shot from behind the arc because he lives in the paint. That should help him get plenty of rebounding opportunities throughout the game.

Sengun just had 16 rebounds against Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sengun end up with 11 or 12 rebounds tonight.
