Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics Game 2: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Indiana Pacers had plenty of chances to steal Game 1 on the road against the Boston Celtics Tuesday night, but they just couldn’t close the door.

From multiple late-game turnovers to a Jaylen Brown game-tying three with just six seconds left, the Pacers truly blew a great opportunity to take an opening lead in this best-of-seven series.

Now, the two teams will face off in Boston again, and we have multiple Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics Game 2 picks for the matchup, so let’s dive in.

Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics Game 2 betting picks and predictions

Boston Celtics -9 (-110)

The Boston Celtics are extremely fortunate to have won Game 1 Tuesday night, but I don’t see them looking back now.

The No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference won their first two series in five games, and I anticipate more of the same for this matchup. Indiana played a fantastic Game 1, as they scored 117 points during regulation while shooting 53.5% from the floor and 13-35 from three (37.1%), and their bench outscored the Celtics 30-13.

The Celtics bench had the best net rating in the NBA this season, and this marked just the second postseason game when the Celtics allowed more than 102 points.

The other two games resulted in victories for the Miami Heat (111-101) and Cleveland Cavaliers (118-94). So, if you’re scoring more than 102 points against this Boston team, you have to capitalize.

Overall, this Boston team is too talented, and Game 1 should be a wake-up call as they were lucky to escape with a win. Before Game 1, seven of the Celtics’ eight wins were by double digits, and I anticipate more of the same in Game 2 against Indiana.

Under 224.5 Points (-110)

My second Pacers vs. Celtics prediction is correlated to my first pick, as I expect Boston to take a different approach in Game 2.

The Pacers pushed the tempo in the first game, and their chances of winning greatly increase if they can get the Celtics to play at their pace. The regular season matchups between these squads were extremely high-scoring, but Boston has brought a new level of defense this postseason.

As mentioned above, the Celtics often hold their opponents to double digits, as the Heat and Cavaliers only surpassed 100 points three times in 10 games against Boston.

Yes, both Miami and Cleveland were missing star players, but Boston’s defense is giving up just 99.5 PPG this postseason, which only trails the already-eliminated Orlando Magic (95.9 PPG) and Oklahoma City Thunder (99.5 PPG).

After the Game 1 scare, I expect Boston to play slower in Game 2 because the only way this Pacers team is going to pull off an upset is by turning the game into a track meet.

Joe Mazzula should make enough adjustments to play the majority of Game 2 in the halfcourt, so the second of my Pacers vs. Celtics predictions is for the game to finish with Under 224.5 Points.

Payton Pritchard U7.5 Points (+100)

Payton Pritchard was Boston’s biggest contributor off the bench in Game 1, but I don’t foresee the Oregon product scoring eight or more in Game 2.

Although he scored eight points, his plus/minus was -15, and the Pacers exposed him multiple times on defense. If I was Joe Mazzula, I’d likely be looking at leaning on Sam Hauser a bit more, as he isn’t a liability on defense.

On offense, Pritchard went 3/4 from the field and 2/3 from three, so he shot extremely well on limited opportunities. He has scored 8+ points in half of the Celtics’ postseason games entering Game 1, so it’s essentially been a coin flip on whether he’ll reach this mark or not.

However, Pritchard benefits when the game is going up and down, which I don’t expect to happen nearly as much in Game 2.

For Pritchard to score eight or more, he’ll likely need at least two threes, as he’s only scored 8+ once without hitting two or more from downtown.

I expect a lower-scoring game in which the Celtics will squeeze the life out of Indiana, resulting in fewer scoring opportunities for Pritchard.
