Golden State Warriors head to Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday and both of these teams could do with a bit of a boost.
Minnesota were rated as potential outside championship contenders before the season got underway but they find themselves in the play-in spots with a 14-12 record.
The expectations on Golden State were perhaps a little lower but they made an excellent start to the campaign as they were 13-3 after 16 games. However, the Dubs are in the middle of a rough patch and they enter Sunday’s game with an identical record to their hosts.
With Warriors vs. Timberwolves starting at 8pm ET, let’s take a look at the odds and best bets to make.
Minnesota Timberwolves have a reasonable 8-5 record at home and they were on a three-game winning streak at the Target Center in Minneapolis until they were destroyed by the New York Knicks in their last home game.
The Knicks ran out 133-107 winners but we probably shouldn’t read too much into that result. Karl-Anthony Towns produced an insane display with 32 points, 20 rebounds, six assists and two steals as he showed Minnesota exactly what they are missing after his surprise off-season move to the Big Apple.
The Knicks also went into that game in form, while Golden State are on a three-game losing streak and on the road they have lost each of the last five.
The Timberwolves are -160 on the Money Line but the best angle looks to be backing the hosts to cover a -3.0 points handicap on the spread.
This is the third meeting between these teams this season and both sides have one win each, but the Timberwolves have outscored the Warriors by nine points in total across those games. Prior to the defeat to the Knicks, the Timberwolves picked up a pair of home wins over the Lakers and won by 29 points and 10 points respectively in those two games, and four of Golden State’s last five road losses have come by four or more points.
Stephen Curry had the worst game of his career in Golden State’s defeat to Memphis last time out as he ended up with just two points in 24 minutes, missing all seven of his attempts from the field as his points came from the free throw line.
The Dubs talisman is simply too good not to provide some kind of response at the Target Center and over 23.5 points looks a realistic total.
Curry is averaging 22 points per-game this season and had scored at least 23 in six straight games before his horror show against the Grizzlies.
There is probably a bit more to come from Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards this year but he’s still having a decent season, and the standout play for the guard in this game is potentially over 5.5 rebounds.
Edwards averages 5.4 rebounds per-game this season and he’s finished with at least five boards in each of his last three home games, with 18 in total across that brief period.
