The Golden State Warriors are out to snap a four-game losing streak at a Denver Nuggets' team struggling for consistency in a match-up between two franchises looking to ignite their campaigns.
The Denver Nuggets (10-8) have been alternating wins and losses for their last seven matches which means they should be due for a win against the Golden State Warriors (12-7) at the Ball Arena.
The problem is that lack of consistency means it's hard to conjure up an awful lot of enthusiasm for Nikola Jokic's side, no matter what the sequencing stats suggest.
And with a better road record (7-4) than anyone other than OKC in the west, the Warriors are taken to cover the 5.0 spread.
Golden State has to find some form having gone 0-4 over the last 10 days, culminating in a hugely disappointing 113-105 reverse in Phoenix.
Steph Curry returned for that game having missed the loss to Oklahoma City with a knee issue, and shot just 8 of 21 from the field.
It's hard to believe Curry will be quite so errant two nights in a row and there were good signs in Phoenix, for example pouring in 15 third-quarter points.
And the likes of Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins bring the level of All-Star experience necessary to drag any team out of a rut.
Coach Steve Kerr has been utilising his bench in a bid to keep 36-year-old Curry fresh but says he will shorten his roster going forward. And more Curry minutes, not less, are what will give Golden State a better chance of winning matches.
Denver's shooting - from the field and the line - was way off the mark in their 126-122 loss to the Clippers last time and it just plays to the narrative that there are too many parts not working for the Nuggets right now.
Curry scored 23 points on his return against Phoenix, making just three of his 10 three-point attempts. He was eight for 21 from the field.
Age is catching up with Curry but he can still shoot the lights out on any given night and off nights like in Phoenix are still rarities.
The two-time MVP is averaging 22.5 points this season but will fancy his chances of clearing that mark against a bottom-half rated Nuggets' defense.
Nuggets' guard Jamal Murray blanked out on rebounds as Denver lost to the Clippers last time.
But he's in for 3.5 against an under-sized Golden State and over is the play.
Murray is averaging 4.1 rebounds per game and had brought down four or more in each of his previous seven games before the loss to the Clippers.
