Wednesday night in the NBA brings fans a full slate with every team in action, including the Golden State Warriors facing off against the Dallas Mavericks in a Western Conference Finals rematch from a few seasons ago.

Both of these teams look extremely different following the NBA trade deadline, with Golden State picking up Jimmy Butler and shedding a few role players in the deal, while the Mavericks are still reeling following the decision from ownership to trade 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic to a conference rival. 

Will Dallas get back on track or will the Warriors send the Mavericks into a tailspin heading into the All-Star break?

Golden State Warriors -6.5 (-110)

The Golden State Warriors will be looking to remain undefeated since their trade for Jimmy Butler when they visit Dallas in this pivotal Western Conference matchup. 

Although we are only dealing with a two-game sample size, the early returns with Butler on the floor have been very encouraging for a Warriors team that really needed some star power to pair with Steph Curry. 

In the games with Butler in the fold, Golden State took care of the Chicago Bulls 132-111 and Milwaukee Bucks by a score of 125-111, with both wins coming on the road. 

In those games, Butler scored 25 and 20 points respectively, while recording a total of 11 rebounds, 10 assists and five steals in the two games combined. His slashing ability has also opened things up for Buddy Hield, too, as the sharpshooter has knocked down 14 three-pointers over the past four contests.

As for their opponent, no team made more headlines at the trade deadline than Dallas (in tandem with the Los Angeles Lakers, from whom the Mavs acquired Anthony Davis in exchange for Doncic). Unfortunately for the Mavs, Davis has already suffered an adductor injury in his first game with the team and will be sidelined for the foreseeable future as a result. 

The injuries for Dallas don’t just stop there. In the frontcourt, Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell are also out on Wednesday, while P.J. Washington and Dante Exum are listed as day-to-day on the injury report.

As a team, Dallas has lost four of its last six overall and things might get worse for Kyrie Irving and company before they get better. 

Given everything surrounding the Mavericks at the moment, take Golden State at -6.5 on the spread.

Under 233.0 Total Points (-110)

Given that an Over game script would traditionally go hand-in-hand with the healthier versions of these teams, our expert believes that we’ll see a bit less scoring than usual in this one. 

For starters, there just aren’t many avenues for Dallas to succeed on offense in this one. After all, the Mavericks offense is missing a ton of production in the frontcourt and it’s hard to expect the rest of the supporting cast to pick up the slack against a high-level Warriors defense, which is now up to 10th in defensive rating on the season. 

Games involving Dallas have cleared this total in seven of the last eight contests, so there could be a bit of regression coming for the Mavericks in that regard. 

As for the Warriors, Golden State has seen a rejuvenation on defense of late, particularly since Butler has entered the fold. It’s no coincidence that the Warriors registered a season-high 16 steals against the Bucks in their last game. Butler’s presence combined with Draymond Green creates a formidable defensive unit, one that should be able to contain the Mavericks' depleted offense in this one.

There is a real possibility for the Warriors to cover the spread in this game while still going Under 233.0 total points, and that is the only way our expert can look in this matchup.
