Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

Following a day off in the NBA on Tuesday, the 2024/25 season resumes with a humongous 12-game schedule on Wednesday night, highlighted by the Boston Celtics hosting the Golden State Warriors.

This game - the first of an ESPN doubleheader - is a showdown between two teams that have been on fire coming out of the gates.

Defending champion Boston is 7-1, while Golden State enters this game with a 6-1 record.

With the game starting at 7:30 PM ET, let’s take a look at the odds and best bets to make.

Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics betting picks and predictions

Golden State Warriors +7.5 (-110)

It’s a bit of a new era in Golden State with Klay Thompson now playing for the Dallas Mavericks, but old reliables such as Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green are still on board.

Head coach Steve Kerr is still running the show, too, while Buddy Hield was brought in to replace Thompson’s shooting, so this formidable franchise really hasn’t lost a step.

In fact, early returns indicate that the Warriors are much better than they were in 2023/24. Not only are they 6-1 straight up, but they are also 6-1 against the spread.

Curry isn’t even averaging 20 points per game (19.8) and his team is still cooking.

The Celtics are also rolling, but both Jaylen Brown (hip) and Kristaps Porzingis (foot) are sidelined. Porzingis’ absence is nothing new; he has not yet played this season and is expected to be out until December at the earliest.

However, missing Brown here could really hurt. The 2023/24 NBA Finals MVP does so much for his team in so many different areas. Boston is deep enough to be very good even without him, but it isn’t quite the same.

Golden State may not win outright, but it should keep the game close against an undermanned opponent.

Under 229.5 total points (-110)

An Under bet correlates nicely with backing Golden State to cover, because it’s unlikely that the visitors can stay close to the Celtics in a shootout. After all, Boston’s defense is stellar.

The reigning champs have allowed more than 109 points only twice this season and they are sixth in the NBA in opponents’ three-point percentage. They are also fifth in defensive rebounding percentage, so second-chance opportunities for the Warriors are likely to be limited.

Fortunately for the Golden State, they are also putting the clamps down in a big way on the defensive end of the floor. They are second in the Association in scoring defense, trailing only the undefeated Oklahoma City Thunder.

Moreover, Golden State is also second in opponents’ field goal percentage and three-point shooting percentage (also trailing only Oklahoma City).

Only once has this team surrendered more than 112 points in a game and now the Warriors face a Boston squad that is without Brown and Porzingis, two of its most prolific scorers when healthy.

All things considered, the Under has great value in this matchup.

Stephen Curry Over 23.5 points (-115)

Curry’s scoring is down simply because he hasn’t been required to do too much so far. He has played four games and in three of those, the Warriors won by 36, 41 and 14 points.

In his last two contests the former Davidson standout is shooting 50 percent from the floor and also 50 percent from three-point range.

So, it’s not like his shot is off and Curry will presumably be tasked with a bigger, high-leverage workload against such a difficult opponent in Boston, so count on him scoring in bunches.
