Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks Game 5: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

After holding on in the final seconds on Sunday night, the New York Knicks look to close out their Eastern Conference first-round series at home against the Detroit Pistons tonight at 7:30 PM ET.

This is the first playoff appearance in six years for Detroit, which has not advanced past the first round since 2008. The team is one of the league’s best stories this season, but it may come to and end this evening.

The Knicks are looking to advance to the Eastern Conference semis for the third straight season under coach Tom Thibodeau. They took a 94-93 decision on the road Sunday evening to put them in command of the series with a 3-1 lead.

Jalen Brunson tallied 30 or more points for the fourth straight time in this series, leading all scorers with 32 points and adding a game-high 11 assists to pace the Knicks in Game 4. Karl-Anthony Towns had 27 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute.

Pistons star Cade Cunningham continued his strong play in his first playoff series, posting his first career playoff triple-double, the third in franchise history. He had 25 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, plus four blocks in Game 4. He leads the team with 25.8 points, nine assists, and 1.5 steals per game in the playoffs.

Read below for more picks and predictions for tonight’s Game 5.

Detroit Pistons vs. New York Knicks betting picks and predictions

Detroit Pistons +5.5 (-110)

Outside of an 11-point Knicks victory in Game 1, this has been a tight affair throughout the series. The Pistons feel they should have won Sunday night’s contest following a missed foul call at the buzzer.

With the series on the line, look for them to push the Knicks for 48 minutes and more if needed.

Per the trends, Detroit is just 1-5 against the spread in its last six games and 2-6 ATS in its last eight road contests overall. The team has won just four of ist previous 20 matchups with New York, but they have proven they can take the game to the wire pretty regularly recently.

Detroit’s defense will keep them in tonight’s affair. The Pistons are third in team rebounds in the playoffs with 45.5 per game, and second in the league with 6.5 blocks per game.

Pistons guard Tim Hardaway Jr. is fourth in the NBA in the postseason with 3.5 three-pointers made per game, and he is averaging 14.3 points overall. Malik Beasley (13.5 ppg) and Dennis Schroder (13 ppg) have been consistent contributors, and Jalen Duren is averaging a double-double with 10.3 points and 11 rebounds per game.

While Detroit may not advance out of this series, they have been a worthy competitor for the Knicks. Their one win in this series came in Game 2 at Madison Square Garden, a 100-94 triumph.

This time around, look for the Pistons to at least cover the 5.5-point spread as underdogs.

Jalen Brunson Over 29.5 Points (-110)

This is one of those player props you just ride until it is no longer viable. Brunson averaged 21 points per game in the last four contests of the regular season and led the team with 26 per game in 65 games played during the 2024/25 regular season, but the two-time All-Star has been at another level the past 10 days.

He went for 34 in the series opener, 37 in the Game 2 loss, 30 in a two-point victory in Game 3, and the Knicks needed every one of his 32 points in the 94-93 win Sunday night. He has embraced the role of New York’s general and has paired up with Towns to form a deadly duo in the Big Apple.

Look for Brunson to stay hot and score Over 29.5 for the fifth straight game.

Under 214.0 Total Points (-110)

The teams totaled Over 214.0 points in Games 1 and 3 and finished well below that in Games 2 and 4. The simple trend says to take the Over tonight, but the Pistons have a recipe for stunting the Knicks.

Detroit has played to the Over four times in five games at Madison Square Garden, while New York has played to the Under nine times in 13 contests.

This one may test that total, but look for the two teams to tally just Under 214.0 points this evening.
