Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Game 2: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks stole Game 1 on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves, so Anthony Edwards and company must win Game 2 if they want a puncher’s chance in this seven-game series.

Game 1 was a back-and-forth affair, and it felt like the Timberwolves could never pull away before Luka took over in the fourth quarter.

Now, the teams will face off in Game 2, so let’s dive into our Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves picks.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Game 2 betting picks and predictions

Timberwolves -5.0 (-115)

I’m going back to the well with the first one of my Mavericks vs. Timberwolves predictions, as I’ll be backing Minnesota to cover the spread at -115 in Game 2. The Timberwolves had a six-point advantage after the first quarter and led 102-98 with 3:37 left, but Dallas finished the game on a 10-3 run to secure the victory.

The Timberwolves have to feel like they were unlucky to lose the opener, but they never stepped on the Mavs when they had them down. I don’t foresee this happening again in front of their home fans, so I love Minnesota in Game 2.

Additionally, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic combined for 63 points in Game 1, and I truly believe that Dallas will only win this series if it is consistently getting 60+ points from those two superstars, which isn't sustainable.

The magic number for Minnesota will be keeping Dallas in double digits, as the Mavs are just 1-3 this postseason when scoring fewer than 100 points. The T-Wolves played much better defense in the second half, and I expect these adjustments to carry over to the start of Game 2.

Finally, Minnesota needs Anthony Edwards to step up if they want to advance to the NBA Finals; he scored just 19 points in Game 1 and only took four two-point shots.

The Timberwolves are at their best when Ant attacks the defense and creates open shots for teammates. Expect a more aggressive Edwards in Game 2, which should lead to a big win for the Timberwolves. Take Minnesota to cover the spread in Game 2.

Under 207.0 Points (-110)

The second Mavericks vs. Timberwolves predictions will fall in line with the thinking from Game 1 and for the first pick for this game - going under the Total Points Line at -110.

Game 1 marked just the sixth game this postseason in which the Timberwolves allowed 100+ points, and they moved to 2-4 when allowing triple digits.

If they want to win this series, they need to turn it into a rock fight in the halfcourt, and that’ll start with their defense.

As stated in the Game 1 preview, the only way Dallas will score triple digits is if Doncic and Irving combine for 60+ and PJ Washington has a big shooting game. Although that happened in Game 1, it is difficult to foresee this happening again.

Minnesota is 5-0 this postseason when the total went Under, and with an expected bounce-back win, going Under the Total again is the second pick for Game 2 in Minnesota.

Kyrie Irving Under 22.5 Points (+100)

Kyrie Irving played fantastically in Game 1, but the vast majority of his scoring production came in the first half - scoring 13 points in the first quarter and 11 points in the second quarter of Game 1 before he was held to just six points in the second half.

Irving averaged 25.6 points per game during the regular season, but he hasn’t kept up that production in the postseason.

The former Cleveland, Boston and Brooklyn star has scored 23+ points in just four of the Mavs’ 12 postseason contests this year, and he failed to surpass this mark once in their series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The T-Wolves need a bigger game on the offensive end from Anthony Edwards, but he is also expected to pick up his defense on irving.

We’ve already seen Ant bounce back this postseason, and it is hard to believe that he’ll let Irving take over his home court to start the game like he did in Game 1. Therefore, the final predictions is for Irving to go Under his Points line in Game 2, particularly at +100 odds.
