Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers preview: Odds, predictions, injuries, how to watch

There are several exciting games tonight in the NBA, but perhaps the most anticipated matchup is between the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers in southern California.

The duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving has proven to be a success as the Mavs hold a 24-17 record heading into Wednesday night's game.

As for the Lakers, LeBron James and Anthony Davis have been absolutely dominating in recent weeks. In their win over the Thunder on Monday, the duo combined for 52 points and 22 rebounds. However, Los Angeles' best trait might be their exceptional depth on their bench.

Mavericks vs. Lakers Predictions

Over 244.0 Points -110

The Mavericks and Lakers have several things in common, such as an elite offense with a below-average defense.

Doncic, who is listed as questionable, and Irving are two of the best scorers in the league and the duo has Tim Hardaway Jr. and Grant Williams as scoring options on the perimeter, too.

However, Dallas has been struggling to get back and defend the paint. That has led to the Mavericks allowing the 11th most points per game.

The Lakers are slightly better on defense compared to the Mavericks, but they are still below league average. Plus, the Lakers are allowing over 121 points per game in their last three matchups which is the seventh most in the NBA in that span.

Between two teams that rely on offense to win games, expect a high-scoring affair.

Anthony Davis Over 13.5 Rebounds -110

Davis will get a generous matchup against a Mavericks team that is terrible at rebounding.

Since Doncic and Irving will be on the perimeter, that will force Williams and Dereck Lively II into the paint to get rebounds.

However, neither of those players possesses the size or skill of the Lakers' big man. Davis has recorded 15 rebounds in back-to-back games and is averaging nearly 13 rebounds per game this season.

Oddsmakers are expecting a lot of points, and with a lot of points comes a lot of shots. Davis should have an excellent chance of grabbing 14 rebounds for the third straight game.

Mavericks Injury Report

The Mavericks injury report ahead of the Lakers showdown includes Luka Doncic (ankle, questionable), Derrick Jones Jr. (calf, probable), Grant Williams (ankle, probable), and Dante Exum (foot, out).

Lakers Injury Report

The Lakers have listed LeBron and Davis on the injury report, but it would be very surprising to see either player not suit up.

LA's injury report includes LeBron James (ankle, questionable), Anthony Davis (ankle, probable), Cam Reddish (knee, out), and Gabe Vincent (knee, out).

Mavericks vs. Lakers Stats

This game will feature two of the best offensive teams in the NBA this season.

The Mavericks average 118.7 points per game, which ranks 7th in the league. The primary reason for that is Doncic is averaging 33.6 points and Irving is contributing 25.8 points per game.

The scoring tandem of Doncic and Irving has been hard to beat this year. Dallas is second in the league in isolation play frequency, running those types of plays 10.2 percent of the time.

The Lakers have a very balanced offensive attack. While LeBron and Davis lead the way, the Lakers also have three other players who average over 10 points per game.

In the last three games alone, the Lakers are averaging over 115 points per game. They shoot from transition opportunities 18.8 percent of the time, and the fact they have the sixth-fastest pace means they create plenty of opportunities on the break.

Head-to-Head

This will be the third meeting of these teams this season, but to get a bigger sample size, let's take a look at the last 10 head-to-head meetings between the Mavericks and Lakers.
