The battle for a top six finish in the Western Conference looks set to run right the way through to the end of the regular season and Los Angeles Clippers will be hoping to make home advantage count when they face Dallas Mavericks for the second time in the space of just over 24 hours on Saturday.
The Clippers sit in seventh place but they are only two games behind their city rivals Los Angeles Lakers in third.
The Mavs are also in the postseason places in ninth, but they can’t climb any higher than their current position and if they are to reach the playoffs they will need to take eighth seed via they play-in tournament.
The Clippers beat the Mavs 114-91 on Friday night and they should be able to win fairly comfortably again in this second game.
We should probably expect a reaction of some kind from Dallas, but they never really looked in the game on Friday as they were 29-16 down at the end of the first quarter, and trailed by 23 points at half-time.
Dallas did offer a little fight in the fourth as they recovered from 34-points down to lose by 23, but at that stage the Clippers had clearly eased off.
The Mavs, who are without Kyrie Irving for the rest of the season, struggled in the absence of Anthony Davis and he may sit out again on Saturday.
Klay Thompson played for just 11 minutes on Friday and Jaden Hardy picked up an injury late on, both remain doubts ahead of Saturday’s game so Dallas will be stretched once again when they face the Clippers.
The hosts might not win by such a convincing margin when these two sides resume their battle on Saturday evening, but their performance on Friday suggests they can win by double digits again so a -8 handicap looks an achievable target for the Clippers in the Point Spread.
Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers in scoring on Friday with 20 points and he may be able to improve on that tally when the two teams meet again.
The forward is averaging 20.7 points-per-game for the season but raised his scoring output through March, averaging 25.2 points. Leonard has scored at least 20 points in 11 consecutive games and has managed at least 24 in seven of those.
The six-time All-Star shot less than 50% on Friday so arguably he should have finished up with a higher points total, and at least 23.5 looks a reasonable target for the 33-year-old.
Spencer Dinwiddie had four assists on Friday but could do a little better in that regard on Saturday, particularly if we do see some kind of response from the Mavs.
The guard is averaging 4.3 dimes per-game for the season but he has had at least eight in three of his last four games, and in five of his last nine going back a bit further.
If Davis is back, as expected, it should free up Dinwiddie to be a little more creative in his play and over 7.5 assists for the 31-year-old has a chance.
