Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers Game 2: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The Los Angeles Clippers are looking to extend their series lead to 2-0 over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, while the Mavs want to even the series before it heads to Texas.

The Clippers made home advantage count in Game 1 of this NBA Playoff series by landing a 109-97 victory at Arena on Sunday. LA's star forward Kawhi Leonard missed that game and is questionable for Game 2.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers Game 2 betting picks and predictions

LA Clippers Money Line (-120)

Kawhi Leonard is nearing a return for the Clippers but given they coped sufficiently without their star man in Game 1, they could be reluctant to rush him back for this matchup. LA was impressive in its first clash with the Mavericks, making 46 percent of their shots on their way to a convincing 12-point victory.

LA’s two regular-season wins came via 19 and nine-point margins and they could flex their muscles against Jason Kidd’s side again.

Keeping Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving quiet will be key to the Clippers’ game plan as the two guards combined for 64 of Dallas’ 97 points in game one. That may be difficult without Leonard, but the Mavericks’ supporting cast is nowhere near as talented as LA’s and that could be the difference.

The Clippers have won eight of their last 11 regular-season meetings with the Mavericks in LA as well as four of their eight playoff clashes. At -120 odds on the money line, the LA is worth backing to earn a 2-0 advantage in this series.

Ivica Zubac over 23.5 points + rebounds (-120)

One of the biggest storylines to come out of Sunday’s series opener was the utter dominance of Clippers center Ivica Zubac. The big Croatian got off to a flying start by notching 10 points in the first half.

Daniel Gafford started the game for Dallas but struggled to contain Zubac in what turned out to be a real mismatch. Dereck Lively II was then introduced to try to slow down the big man, which didn’t quite go to plan as LA’s center finished the game with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Kidd must find a solution to stopping Zubac if the Mavericks are to have any chance of progressing into the second round, but he is unlikely to have found that formula just yet and the Croat could provide another big performance.

In the sole meeting between the Mavericks and Clippers in LA during the regular season, Zubac managed 11 points and 14 rebounds in just 23 minutes on the court. Given he is likely to enjoy more playing time after his exceptional performance in Game 1, he rates a solid bet in the combined points and rebounds market.

Doncic was the only Mav to hit double figures in rebounds on Sunday, managing two less that Zubac’s 15, suggesting the LA center will dominate on the boards and in the paint again.

Given the Croat had the highest plus/minus of any player on the court (+15) in Game 1, it is clear Dallas do not have the answers to the questions he poses, and he could rack up the points, as well as rebounds, with ease once more.

James Harden 4+ threes made (+160)

The big question when Dallas acquired Kyrie Irving was how he and Doncic would work on the defensive end. Both are, without a shadow of a doubt, two of the best offensive guards in the league, but each leaves plenty to be desired at the other end of the court.

Their defensive deficiencies were seen to full effect on Sunday. The Mavericks struggled to cope with the Clippers on the perimeter, as LA made 50 percent of their 36 three-point attempts in Game 1.

The biggest beneficiary of that enhanced space from beyond the arc was James Harden, who knocked down six of his 11 threes. The Clippers boast a roster full of great three-point shooters, from Paul George to Norman Powell to Terance Mann, and the Mavericks simply do not have the resources to stop them all from pulling up from deep.

If Leonard returns from injury in time for this clash even more space will open up for the likes of Harden to knock down shots from deep.

But even without Leonard, the Clippers could dominate from beyond the arc again and backing Harden to notch four or more three pointers at big odds represents an appealing bet.
