Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

NBA champions the Boston Celtics are in action on Sunday night as they travel to play Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Celtics have been struggling to build winning streaks over the last month and will be aiming to win three successive games for the first time since January 4, but they are double-digit favorites against the Sixers.

Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers betting picks and predictions

Philadelphia 76ers +11.0 (-115)

The Celtics are the NBA champions and while they are not showing quite the same spark this time around, they still have the third-best record in the association at 34-15, trailing only the Cleveland Cavaliers (39-9) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (38-9).

Joe Mazzulla's team has been struggling for consistency since the turn of the year and after entering December with a 16-3 record, they have been picking up regular losses. The Celtics have won only six of their last 10 games, with defeats against the Raptors, Hawks, Lakers and Rockets in that time, but they have won their last two, 122-100 at home to the Bulls and 118-116 over the Pelicans on the road on Friday night.

That success in New Orleans was not as comfortable as they would have liked, though, and the 76ers look capable of covering a large spread on their home court.

The 76ers are only 9-13 at home this season and 19-28 overall, but that represents a solid improvement on their 2-12 start to the campaign.

Nick Nurse's team endured another seven-game losing streak in the middle of January, but responded well to win four in a row against the league-leading Cavaliers, Bulls, Lakers and Kings before going down 137-134 to the Nuggets after another bold showing on Friday night.

Star man Tyrese Maxey led the way again in that contest, with his second 40-point game in his last three outings, and the 76ers have covered the spread in their last five games against teams with superior records.

There is a chance that center Andre Drummond could return for the 76ers after missing the last five games with a toe injury too.

The Celtics have covered the spread in only four of their last 12 games and lost straight up as favorites against the Lakers and the Rockets.

The Sixers won the teams' first meeting of the season 118-114 in Boston on Christmas Day, although Joel Embiid and Paul George, who played in that game, are currently injured. That makes the Celtics favorites to take this one on the road, but the home side should put up a good fight.

Over 222.0 points (-110)

The first matchup between these teams this season produced 232 points, while two of their final three meetings last season also went over the total points line for this game, with 244 and 224 points scored.

The teams average a combined 226.3 points scored per game this season, while Celtics games are averaging 227.7 points and 76ers matchups are coming in at 220.0 points.

The Sixers' recent games against stronger squads have also been high-scoring with their clash against the Cavs generating 261 points and their two meetings with the Nuggets producing 253 and 271 points.

Kristaps Porzingis over 2.5 threes made (+135)

Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis had a sensational outing against the Bulls last Wednesday, posting a season-high 34 points. That performance included an amazing eight made three-pointers, from 14 attempts, when his success rate from downtown was even higher than his two-point percentage.

The Latvian star is tempting at plus-money to make at least three in the game against the 76ers. He has gone over 2.5 three-pointers made in eight of his last 10 games, during which time he has made more than half of his long-range attempts.

With teams converting 36.6% of their three-point shots against the Sixers this season, Porzingis could be in business again, and he made three triples in the teams' first meeting despite playing only 13 minutes of that game before leaving with an injury.
