NBA 3-Point Contest: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The 3-Point Contest is always one of the highlights of the NBA All-Star weekend, with some of the biggest names in basketball making their mark in this event.

In 2025, Damian Lillard is looking to join an illustrious list of stars to win the contest on three occasions and in successive years.

Larry Bird was the first man to win the 3-point event in 1986, with the Boston Celtics’ legend then following up in 1987 and 1988.

Chicago Bulls shooting guard Craig Hodges is the only other player to lift the trophy three times, with victories in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

Lillard has won the previous two contests, firing 26 of 40 in both 2023 and 2024 – the first year as a Portland player and then as a Milwaukee Buck second time around.

Victory this year in San Francisco will see the nine-time All-Star overtake Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry on his home court.

Tyler Herro to win (+700)

Only three franchises have won the 3-Point Contest on four separate occasions, the Chicago Bulls, the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat.

The Heat could be celebrating a fifth success in 2025, with Tyler Herro looking well placed to take top spot.

Herro is taking part in his second 3-Point Contest, having been part of the field in 2022/23, and goes into this event in good form.

The 25-year-old is currently ranked fourth in the league for three-pointers made, averaging 3.70 per game for a team currently sat ninth in the Eastern Conference.

Herro goes into Saturday’s competition off the back of a stellar performance, firing 40 points in Miami’s 118-113 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks.

Darius Garland to win (+500)

Two of the last six winners have been first-time competitors and Darius Garland fits into that category going into Saturday’s showdown.

The Cleveland Cavaliers ace is the second highest player in this field in the NBA three-point stats, sat 10th in the league with 156 three-pointers made in 52 games.

Garland has played a big part in four straight wins for the Cavs, who are top of the East with a 44-10 record.

The Point guard is set to play in the All-Star Game, in what will be his second appearance after being selected in 2022.

The Cavaliers have had three previous winners, with Mark Price claiming back-to-back titles in 1993 and 1994, while Kyrie Irving won the contest when a Cleveland player in 2013.
