Reigning NHL Hart Trophy winner Nathan MacKinnon has four points in two games already this season, and he'll look to continue at that level for the Colorado Avalanche in the team's Monday, October 14 game vs. the New York Islanders.
The 29-year-old center started his season with two assists in an 8-4 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, and he followed that up with a goal and an assist in another Avs loss, this time by a 6-4 score to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Colorado has been involved in high-scoring affairs in each of its games so far. The top players have kept up their respective ends of the bargain, as MacKinnon is joined by Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen on four points, but players lower down the lineup have struggled.
Through two games, all but seven Avs players have negative expected plus/minus ratings. That means the top players will have even more expectations on their shoulders if the bottom six forwards and the second and third defensive pairings continue to struggle.
Now a 12th-year NHL veteran, MacKinnon has proven time and time again that he can carry a team. He has six seasons with 30+ goals and is coming off back-to-back 100-point seasons.
With that in mind, let's take a look at MacKinnon's odds and lines for tonight's game against another winless team, the New York Islanders.
