Chelsea introduced United States Women's National Team center back Naomi Girma on Sunday after she completed the first $1 million transfer in women's soccer history.
Girma is set to make her Chelsea debut this weekend, when the Blues face Aston Villa on Sunday, February 2nd.
So far in her career, the 24-year-old defender has made 44 appearances for the USWNT. She played college soccer at Stanford, where she partnered in defense with fellow USWNT CB Alana Cook and won the National Championship in 2019.
As a rookie in the National Women's Soccer League's 2022 season, Girma earned the Rookie of the Year and Defender of the Year awards, and she was a finalist for the MVP award.
In her second season, she helped the San Diego Wave to the NWSL Shield for the team with the best regular season record. She also became the first defender to win the USWNT's Player of the Year Award in 2023.
