Inter Miami picked up yet another win ahead of the break in play for the Leagues Cup this weekend and looks to be tightening their grip on the MLS Supporters' Shield, with the chasing Cincinnati and Columbus Crew struggling for results in recent weeks.
With a month-long Leagues Cup break coming up, let's get into our latest MLS power rankings.
Inter Miami may be without talisman Lionel Messi, but it is not doing them any harm after a 2-1 win over Chicago Fire made it six wins in seven since the Argentina captain last played for them. They now lead the overall table by four points and have a game in hand.
Los Angeles FC were hammered 5-1 at home to Columbus Crew last weekend, but they have recovered well from that humbling by taking four points from two games. They were impressive in their 3-0 win in Seattle at the weekend and have 32 points from the last 39 available.
Columbus Crew's 5-1 thrashing of LAFC last weekend showed why they are considered one of the best teams in MLS. However, their inconsistencies are holding them back as seen in the past week, taking just one point from two games to leave them 10 points adrift of Inter Miami, albeit with a couple of games in hand.
LA Galaxy's defeat in Dallas last weekend shone some light on the legitimate concerns over their attacking play, but they put those doubts to bed with a couple of 3-2 victories last week. They are now top of the Western Conference and have won seven of their last nine.
FC Cincinnati were flying high just a couple of weeks ago after a 6-1 demolition of Inter Miami, but the wheels have come off heading into the hiatus. Successive defeats to Charlotte FC, Chicago Fire, and New York Red Bulls put them five points off the top, although they have still won 12 of the last 17.
Portland Timbers have steadily moved up the pecking order after a troubling start under Phil Neville. They beat Real Salt Lake 3-0 last weekend and, while they did fall to a defeat at the Galaxy, they are starting to improve.
Colorado Rapids piled the pressure on Real Salt Lake with a 3-2 win at the weekend to bounce back from a narrow loss to the Galaxy in Los Angeles in midweek. They have won six of their last nine and are slowly closing the gap to the West's top three.
Charlotte may not have followed their fantastic win over Cincinnati with results of a similar nature, but they managed to pick up points against Columbus Crew and Austin in their last two games and are steadily climbing the Eastern Conference.
Real Salt Lake remain in a strong position in the Western Conference, but their confidence has taken a battering of late. Their 3-0 loss at Portland Timbers was followed by a draw and a defeat to leave them with only one point from the last nine available.
New York Red Bulls are one of the toughest sides to beat in the MLS, but they do struggle to see out games. They should take confidence from a 3-1 win over a declining Cincinnati team and are now unbeaten in eight matches.
Seattle Sounders saw their five-match winning streak ended at the weekend as they were hammered 3-0 at home by Los Angeles FC. Their winning run, while impressive, did largely come against the league's weaker teams, so they should not be overestimated just yet.
Orlando City have had some tough times this season, but they have really started to piece things together recently. They picked up a point against New York City at the weekend, ending a four-game winning streak but extending their unbeaten run to five matches.
A late comeback from Houston Dynamo saw Vancouver Whitecaps fall to a damaging defeat at the weekend, but they had won four and drawn one of their five games prior to that. They find themselves 11 points off the Western Conference lead with two games in hand.
The aforementioned late comeback against Vancouver made it two wins in the space of a week for Houston Dynamo, and while they have struggled for form at times this season, they appeared to be coming good ahead of the break. Like Vancouver, they look to be closing on the leading pack in the Western Conference.
A strong opening few months for New York City FC has given way to a troubling period. They drew with Orlando City at the weekend for a third successive stalemate, while they have won only two of their last nine.
