What’s more impressive are Webb’s underlying metrics, as he currently holds a 1.96 FIP that ranks third-best among qualified MLB starters, and a 30.8 percent strikeout rate that sits as his career-best mark.

Despite the star power in the Padres lineup, our expert sees no reason to expect Webb to suddenly turn in a bad outing on Tuesday, especially since he’s historically had success against the likes of Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr.

On the other side, Nick Pivetta has been outstanding for San Diego to this point, but he is pitching way over his head at the moment compared to his usual career numbers.

It’s likely only a matter of time before the veteran right-hander should regress to the mean a bit, even at home.
