San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers will meet in the third instalment of their four-game series at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Dodgers have won the opening two games of the series and will be looking to make it three-from-three, but the Giants won’t go down without a fight.

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers betting picks and predictions

Dodgers ML (-185)

The Bay Area rivalry has lived up to expectations thus far as both games have been exciting to watch.

The Dodgers won the series opener behind an excellent outing from River Ryan and then made it two from two after a solid start by Landon Knack in game two, so a win tonight would win the series for Los Angeles.

Tyler Glasnow will get the start tonight as he returns to the rotation after a short trip to the injured list.

Glasnow had been suffering from lower back tightness at the beginning of July, so the Dodgers decided to have him skip his last start before the All-Star break and get an extended rest.

It’s been 19 days since he last took the mound, so both his back and arm should be well-rested for this rivalry game.

The Giants will counter Glasnow with Robbie Ray, who is making his debut for his new team. Ray made only one start in 2023 before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery which brought his time with the Mariners to an end.

The 2021 Cy Young appeared in only one full season for the Mariners before his injury in 2023, and in the offseason, the Mariners decided to move on from Ray.

He was traded to the Giants where he continued to rehab his arm, and after nine starts in the Minors, Ray is ready to return to the big leagues.

Ray appeared in three games in Triple-A as part of his rehab assignment and he posted a 1-0 record with a 2.53 ERA and 0.75 WHIP.

In his last two starts in the Minors, Ray allowed zero runs, two hits, three walks, and 16 strikeouts in 10.1 innings. He appears to be ready to return, but his first start coming against the Dodgers is going to be tough. Until we see more of Ray in the Majors, it’s best to choose the other side.

Over 8 runs (+100)

There are a lot of uncertainties in this matchup. Both pitchers are returning from injuries and it’s unclear how long they will pitch for and how effective they will be after their time off.

Glasnow’s back has been a problem for him in the past, so I’m expecting the Dodgers to be careful with their ace in his first time back on the mound in nearly three weeks.

Los Angeles is expected to be very active in the trade market in the next week and the last thing they need is another pitcher to be hurt, so Glasnow probably won’t go too long in this matchup.

Also, this will be his third time facing the Giants this season. The divisional rival has given him some trouble already considering he’s allowed eight runs, 11 hits, and four walks in just nine innings.

If the Giants can knock Glasnow around for three runs again, this game has a great chance of exceeding the total.

Ray is the biggest question mark in this matchup. He pitched well in the Minors in his last few rehab starts, but the difference between a Triple-A team and the Dodgers is night and day.

He may still be on a pitch count and not throw more than 70 pitches tonight, and that will leave a lot of work for the unreliable Giants bullpen.

But back to Ray, the Dodgers lineup has seen plenty of him from when he was on the Diamondbacks and Mariners roster.

Between Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernandez, Jason Heyward, and Miguel Rojas, they are a combined 16-for-47 (.340) against Ray in their careers. That should lead to the Dodgers having a decent amount of baserunners against Ray in the first half of the game, so side with the over in this matchup between Glasnow and Ray.
